Remember she tried to enslave an entire town through equality and rewrite history to rid the Mane Six of their Cutie Marks for ruining her paradise. In the end Twilight and the Mane Six still forgave and befriended her on the spot out of every other major villian they faced, all because Twilight saw herself in her and decided to help her with friendship and magic. Discord was still treated like trash periodically except from Fluttershy while Celestia was the one who pushed them to be friends with him. Twilight was against it still. Discord isn’t a real true threat since his whole goal is to create chaos instead of killing everyone off. Sombra was defeated twice after trying to take over the Crystal Kingdom, but no attempt at forgiveness in the end. Chrysalis was only forgiven once by Starlight was offered friendship by Starlight while the others didn’t offer it, the one who tried to take over a royal wedding and all of Equestria. Cozy Glow, being a child was never forgiven after what she did at the school and in the end after allying with Tirek and Chrysalis. Tirek is Tirek, but no forgiveness either. Trixie enslaved Ponyville to get back at Twilight, Twilight saved the town and forgave her, but immediately treated her like she was a nuisance the next time she was seen, which Trixie pointed out to her. In short of all of this, a big middle finger went to every major villian except for Starlight because selfishly picking and choosing those who have equally committed major crimes was their ultimate choice instead of Twilight attempting to extend her friendship to all as the Princess of Friendship.

But she is just one sweet little pony. What could she have possibly done to make an entire show fall off?

the moment you say “objective” and start giving your subjective opinion nobody will half a brain is gonna listen

I feel the last episode of season five should have been the finale. It ends with a unicorn (Starlight) who is rife with magical potential, embittered due to no concept of real friendship. And yet, just before taking it all out on the space-time continuum, she is instead persuaded to change her ways by a mare who was once also alone and bereft of friendship herself (Twilight Sparkle), saying she’ll teach her everything about it and the magic within. That’s a perfect full-circle, even redeeming Starlight’s stupid backstory by outwiehging it through a resolution relfecting Twilight’s own progress. Continuing the show as they did aterwards was absolutely to its detriment, not only taking away focus from the main cast, but allowing Starlight to progress in her “lessons” far too quickly. She simply never felt like a rookie long enough. Her remorse was short-lived. Her sudden position as a central protagonist ensured that FiM was never the same show after; her inclusion was even more of a dynamic shift than Twilight’s ascension, or her new castle post-Tirek.

tl;dr
I get it that people like Starlight Glimmer, but let’s be objective here– she’s not well-written post-redemption. In fact, everything after her redemption weakens her story. She fulfilled her arc and accepted to change and grow and trust in the magic of friendship, Twilight now responsible for overseeing a mare she might find resembles herself if she never had any friends. Furthermore, is it really a coincidence that as soon as Starlight became such an integral focal point of the show, it suddenly fell into worse writing? No, it isn’t. Fact of the matter is everything people dislike came oh-so soon after her unuanced inclusion.

Out of all the reasons the show (and G4 in general) “fell off” Starlight Glimmer is, like, the least terrible

Starlight Glimmer is best pony! Not because she’s best pony, but because saying she’s best pony counteracts one person who thinks she’s worst pony.

Well, she is the worst character of the show, after all.
