yeah this makes far more sense them that alicorn being twilight herself, cause twilight is taught to care for others, not be like a dictator over everyone.

I hear many speculating that this new alicorn villain is connected to Twilight. Like one of her students/descendants who got corrupted and betrayed her. If that was the case, that would actually explain a lot about G5 Equestria. If Twilight and the other princesses fought this new villain and lost, that would explain why the ponies were separated again and the princesses couldn’t stop it: Without Twilight, the whole friendship utopia she built fell apart. Maybe this new villain even directly broke the ponies up.
