Better looking models are simply better, if you model your characters after mythological creatures you should at least put enough effort into them to make them look accordingly.

Fun fact, in one of the other comment threads, somepony claimed nopony ever asked about Spike’s parents, unlike with Applejack. Guess that was wrong, huh?
 
I do have one question. If Spike’s “father” did turn out to be like that red dragon, what is it that would give you? Why is this one such a disappointment? Is it to make them “cooler” than the ponies?

I really hope this isn’t his dad, after years of wondering who Spike’s parents were, and thinking about them and what they would of looked like and what type of dragons they were, and this is what we get, disappointed wouldn’t even begin to describe how I would feel if this really was his dad… I mean was I really the only one who was hoping Spike’s parents or at least his dad would look more badass than this, or just would be, more than THIS.
