I really hate the double-standards with these two characters.
“Sunset acted nasty, smart mouthed & demanded things of Celestia, stole something, lied about others to try to break up their friendships, dated a guy just because he was well-liked, but didn’t really love him, tried to frame Twilight, threatened her cute li’l dog/Spike, threatened to smash the portal so Twilight couldn’t go home, turned into a monster, tried to enslave everybody, and declare war on Equestria. She also tried to kill the Humane 6.
But wait, she’s suddenly nice now. Awwww look at how cute & brooding she is in an entire movie, she really is sorry. Oh look she saves the day! Best character! Best waifu! More Sunset! Make her the main character! Put her in the main Pony show plz!”
“Starlight started a cult, acted like a smug bitch, and messed up time, attacked Twilight, unaware of how it was messing up & endangering the present.
Oh look, she’s a good guy suddenly now, and helped saved the day, and such. She must die! Worst pony! Mary-Su! Spotlight stealer! Keep her out of EqG, only Sunset should save the day in that! Boo! Less Starlight! Get rid of her! More Sunset!”
