As I said before, the brainwashing only results in mindless drones. They do not automatically develop advanced fighting capabilities, and if they already happen to have those skills, then Sunset still has to tell them exactly what to do. The point is there are simply too many what-ifs and unknowns in Sunset’s plan for her to be a particularly intimidating and threatening villain. At least in comparison to Chrysalis, that is.

Actually, Chrysalis is not unlike Venom from Gradius V. With her apparently eternal hatred, she doesn’t know enough about her enemy to put up an effect offense.

Brainwashing sure is a not combat skill, but again, why combat and be there when you can send others to do the dirty job?
 
Combat is not the only way to measure a villain’s effectiveness. Kefka was one of the most succesful villains in Final Fantasy, managed to keep the world and any opposition on his toes for one year, destroyed all hope during that time, managed to defeat almost any other menace to his ambition before the heroic party could finally put him down for good, and was the god of the magic, meaning that he controlled the whole world, and while there’s some dissonance between gameplay and history, in gameplay Final boss Kefka wasn’t exactly very difficult with the right moves and party moves.
 
Sunset could be a great menace while not needing to be there to make the actual fight.

First, brainwashing isn’t a combat move; I doubt she’d have an easy time casting that on someone actively attacking her or constantly moving around. Second, her brainwashing only makes mindless drones. She still has to take the time to command them around in order for them to do anything.

Brainwashing other beings is still pretty OP if you thinl about it. If weren’t because of the element of magic, even Celestia would have problems stoping her since she could just brainwash ponies, dragons and practically anything on her way. Sunset Satan was probably better than we thought.

True, but I never claimed she didn’t have remarkable combat abilities because she was defeated by the elements of harmony. That observation was based on the attacks she used in her final battle with Twilight.

I wasn’t talking about Sunset having OHK skills, I mean that the Mane 6 pretty much had something mean to one shoot villains, meaning that Sunset’s power was more or less irrelevant when it comes to taking a rainbow of power, specially isnce the very same power pretty much turned against her. That’s why we can’t say she had irremarkable powers, because mentioning how she was easily defeated by the harmony magic is like pitting a wolf to fight against an : the wolf is probably amazing but the fight is clearly unfair.

Given that Sunset wasn’t using the elements in the same manner the mane six do (she only had one of them and was definitely not using it to restore friendship and harmony), I seriously doubt she would have the same one-hit-kill capabilities usually granted to the mane six.

Givin that Demon Sunset was defeated by the elements themselves which seems to consistently work as an OHK all too often, alongside with the fact that she was using the very loyal magic that wasn’t really hers, we can’t really tell the extension of Sunset Satan’s powers.

Combat-wise, Demon Sunset doesn’t appear to have any particularly special moves. All of the attacks we saw her use were no more powerful than what Alicorn Twilight could drum up. Maybe she could take down Celestia, but it certainly wouldn’t be as easy as a one-hit-kill.
 
The fail-safe measures we saw in “The Mean Six” came from the elements (which happened to be attached to the tree of harmony), not the tree itself.

Demon Shimmer was pretty powerful and just had to wait until Celestia was distracted for a moment.  
She would have many advantages and would not hesitate to use them for a killing strike.
 
I also think she would be fine as long as she stayed away from the tree of harmony.

You should have made that clearer then. Because it seemed like a direct rebuttal to my “never achieved her main goal” statement the way you wrote it.
 
This is assuming that demon form Sunset even has the power to take out Celestia in one hit. Also, given what we saw in “The Mean Six”, it’s entirely possible the element would stop working for her the minute she walks into Equestria.

Celestia would have been completely surprised by the army and all Sunset needed is one good strike while she was distracted.  
Countermeasures would have costed time that Sunset simply would not let her.  
It was a good plan.

Sunset’s “rule” depended on the entirety of CHS being complete morons who, as we learn when Twilight brings them all together again, never even tried talking to each other about the things Sunset set up.
 
Nevermind whether or not Sunset’s whole plan, relying on the Element of Magic (for which she specifically criticized Twilight not knowing the meaning of bringing into another world…), would have worked long-term, or if it would have fizzled out and screwed her the second she went back through the portal.
 
And honestly, she doesn’t seem too bright as a hero, either, relying almost exclusively on all-fixing magic or dumb luck to bail her out every time. :s

You might want to consider re-watching the movie. Sunset herself stated that ruling over the school wasn’t her main goal. She retrieved the crown on two separate occasions because she lost it very shortly after the first time. Compare to Chrysalis, who–in both instances–never faced a major setback until she was defeated.
 
Obviously attacking brainwashed teenagers wouldn’t be an easy decision for Celestia, but I’m sure she would do it if there were absolutely no other options left to save Equestria. Also, Celestia has centuries of knowledge to fall back on and more likely than not would be able to figure something out or at least know where to look to find the solution.

She ruled her school uncontested for a long time and she managed to get Twilys crown two times.  
I am also pretty sure that Celestia did not expect an invasion and would also refuse to harm innocent brainwashed ponies/people so Sunset and her army would have several crucial advantages.
