I disagree with this “Sorry, but that’s just what kids find aesthetically appealing these day” because kids would watch anything and kids need to see stuff that looked different because not every kid is into the same thing and some kids would be tired of the samething.
 
Just because people use flash doe’s not mean everything has to be simple and lazy, mlp is one the best looking flash shows because they are not rehashing the same thing everyone else is when comes to art and they wanted their show to be different and they put a lot of effort into the show and I like that

Sorry, but that’s just what kids find aesthetically appealing these days. Formal abstract non angularity is in, aspirational human physicality is out. Are there some social and/or political reasons for that? Probably, but it’s also true that Occam’s Razor is a thing and that the reason characters from cartoons in the 80’s looked like roided out musclebros was because they were toy commercials and there were only so many variations on the plastic molds at the factory. Also the biggest Hollywood star at the time was Arnold.
 
Also, MLP (like almost all cartoons these days) is animated in Flash. That’s about as simple and cheap as simple and cheap gets.

Strictly speaking, the thick-line animation of the ’90s was more CalArts than this style.
 
“Grinning potato style” is more evocative anyway.

“CalArts style” isn’t a real thing. It’s a buzzword coined by Animation Insider and John K to insinuate that studios hired people based on what school they went to over actual talent, which falls on its’ face under scrutiny because almost everyone this dis gets hurled at never set foot in CalArts in the first place.

disney get away with terrible stuff because of their reputation. every starry eyed animator or graphic designer out of college was inspired by disney masterpieces, so you’ll basically do anything to work for the magical kingdom. execs who like to abuse people tend to end up working for famous companies, since normally the workers wouldn’t put up with it.

I can see that. I loved Reboot as a kid and TGC was a massive disappointment as a reboot of a franchise and as a work on it’s own :(

If you want to see a case where fan hate is justified and doesn’t go over the deep end, check out ReBoot: The Guardian Code, the nepotistic, cliched, and bastardizing garbage that Rainmaker Entertainment is making, at least according to this site.
 
Their displeasure seems justified from what I’ve heard; I haven’t watched TGC myself, so I can’t say anything concrete. However, I personally think their goal, to get a conclusion to the cliffhanger of the original ReBoot, is a lost cause, as they are just a small fan site and have little power other than complaining to Rainmaker.
 
Still, at least I haven’t heard of anyone harassing the cast and crew other than the showrunner (who, from what I’ve heard, is a real piece of work) and the hate, strong as it is, does seem justified given the legacy that TGC is trampling on. Hopefully TGC will fade away and be forgotten and the revivalists will give up and move on from their senseless struggle.
 
There is a lesson to be learned here for the Star Wars fanbase, as no matter how Disney chooses to handle the franchise, their ownership is secure and will not stop unless someone bigger buys it from them. Even if Lucas took it back, would it be worth the risk of whatever he did next being as controversial as the prequels?
 
It seems that the fans lose either way, as neither Disney or Lucas seem to have maintained a high approval rating from them. Who would the fans trust except themselves to continue the franchise as they see fit? Also, unless the fans convince everyone else to not support Disney (fat chance,) the money will keep pouring in. “It’s money that produces a show, not the approval of those who watch it.”

Was aiming more at the comments section in general. Wasn’t trying to single you out specifically. Probably should have made myself more clear. My bad.
 
In any case, the older I get the harder my eyes roll at bullshit internet drama. If someone doesn’t like Rose or the casino bit, that’s fine. There’s plenty of stuff with Star Wars I’ll never understand, such as how someone with less than 10 lines between three movies who met his end to a blind guy with a stick can become the most popular character ever. However, this six-month long whinefest over a movie is just sad. And yeah, I agree that it’s a shame that people who have genuine issues with the movie are getting lumped together with the assholes, but that’s what happens when the most vile sect of a fandom is also the loudest. You know what they say; one bad apple spoils the whole barrel.
 
As for the Thundercats thing, yeah, I don’t much care for the new design, but on the other hand I’m not six years old so even if I found the art style appealing I probably still wouldn’t watch it. I mean, does anyone actually remember the original show? It was pretty bad, even by standards of 80’s cartoons. And this whole “CalArts style REEEEEE” thing is right up there with ‘jet fuel can’t melt steel beams’ on the stupid scale.
