Oh, there’s definitely plenty to choose from on the interwebs. It’s wonderful that there are so many people out there who not only sew but sell their wares online. I tend to go with people who live near me because you might need alterations. I know from experience that not all patterns are created equal!
 
As for Marilyn, I don’t know too much about her; just that she had an abusive childhood and died under mysterious circumstances at a young age. No details about either, just what’s general knowledge. But, as you say, having baggage comes with the sort of people who go to “Hollywood” in the first place.
 
(I’m waiting for the technology that will let me fly like a pegasus, so fingers crossed!)

You could also try Googling things like “Rose costume”, “Rose costume Titanic” “Titanic dress” “Titanic Rose dress” and try adding her middle and last names in to each of those for even more terms to try searching. Her full name is in the tags - Rose Dewitt Bukater.
 
I got this by looking on Amazon for rose bukater costume (can’t vouch for or against its quality), though Amazon went; “showing results for rose butter costume. Search instead for Rose Bukater costume?” and click the link to actually search “rose bukater costume” :P
 
You can try different terms there or on Google or Ebay, though. Or anywhere else you can think of.
 
That result I got for “Rose Bukater Costume” looks better than a lot of those other results, though, in terms of quality.
 
Rose was supposed to be like, super rich, and movies tend to have pretty big budgets, so expect an actual dress of authentic quality patterned after hers to be, well, expensive :p
 
Costumes can have surprisingly good quality sometimes, though.
 

 
Also, I know next to nothing about Monroe, or any stars for that matter, so I didn’t know that. That’s sad to hear. Though now I’m kinda curious to go wiki’ing.
 
EDIT: interesting. They say people who go showing themselves off like that usually have… baggage. She seems to kinda fit that. Also, I’m back in the mode of thinking of people seeing the world change over the years. She lived tragically short, though, so only saw from the 30’s to early 60’s. I wonder what kind of comments she had on that.
 
Eh, might be a bit of a one-track mind, but it’s late, and I never cease to be amazed and in love with the progress of human civilization as we deepen our understanding of the universe and ascend in our triumphs in it. I guess it’s just not that big a deal to most people, though. But myself - I hope people feel sorry for our generation, one day. We say; “those poor fellows lived short, brutal, unhygienic and un-airconditioned lives!”, and I hope one day people will say the same about our generation as compared to the wonders they live with.

That does not at all surprise me. Of course, Rarity had nothing like the horrible upbringing Monroe had, so I guess Rarity is Marilyn without the baggage.

Better you than me. Costumes are fun to wear, but then I can’t see them as well! If you live anywhere in Southern California there are often studio sales where the movie and TV studios auction off or sell stuff for which they no longer have storage space, including costumes. Or you make friends with someone who’s really good at sewing :D

My own grandfather worked in sheet-metal and helped build the ducts fout as close as he got to war since he was 4For the Nautilus, among other things. That’s about as close as he got to war since he was 4F (he even tried to sneak into the army but was too blind ofr the physical). My dad’s best friend’s father worked on the Manhattan Project, so he and my grandpa were kind of opposite ends of the same thing. Sadly, Grandpa’s no longer around. He died of Mesothelioma last year. But we managed to get recordings of him telling his amazing stories before he died.

Hah, that actually reminds me of my own grandpa who’s still around and worked as an electrical engineer with scientists who were using the A-4’s (captured V-2 rockets brought in from Nazi Germany). Even got close to Wahrner Von Braun at one point :p
 
Crazy story; one day he was tasked to try to triangulate where the thing went down - whenever they launched one, finding where it crashed (they did this all in the Mojave desert) was a real challenge. What they’d do, then, is have people in all these different watch towers start a stopwatch when it launched, and click it again when they heard the boom from it hitting the ground. They could use the differences in how long it took them to hear the boom to triangulate where it came down.
 
So he was driving out to his post in a jeep with a buddy, and they went by the launch site as it was about to launch - all the alarms buzzing and everything - and went; “hey, cool, let’s watch this thing go.” So they watch it lift off the pad, then lean over, and start barreling straight towards them. He takes cover under the jeep, and his buddy hops in the jeep. Said he got blown thirty feet into an adjacent sanddune and got some real injuries from it in a lung that’d follow him the rest of his life.
 
Later got stationed on on of the first navy ships to experiment with launching guided missiles from sea.

The whole flapper look was really a rejection of pre-WWI fashions and ideas, though regular fashion was already doing a longer, slimmer silhouette than the turn-of-the-century modified hourglass.
 
Burlesque sub-fashion changed with the fashions of society at large, so depending on the era the costumes would look different. (It was only really in the mid-1800s, especially in America, that “Burlesque” became associated with scantily-clad women. Before that it was more like the Vaudeville of the late 1800s.) The “Southern-Belle” look you’re thinking of was more 1840s, but as all fashion is informed or influenced by previous fashion you’re not technically wrong. (Here’s a handy picture to demonstrate how the silhouette changed )

Your Great-Grandma sounds like mine! Mine was born in 1899 and died in 1991. Luckily one of my older relatives was able to document all her stories and such so we have them for future generations. Maybe someone in your family did the same!
 
(And it’s ok- I edit late all the time!) I bet your Gran wore clothing like this; scratchy lace and high-button boots. I think you and I got off lucky! But yes, your Gran also probably had a stylish dress like Rarity’s when she got older.

The oldest person I ever knew personally was my great-grandmother. She was born in 1895, and died in 1990. Good lordy, the things she must’ve lived through in her 95 years…unfortunately, she was nearly stone deaf (good lip reader though), and hated talking about the past. She preferred to enjoy the present and go out with the other women in the WI occasionally. xD
