Also, Princess Ember reforming the dragons actually made sense. You could understand why they acted the way they did, what was wrong with it, and why her alternative social views were a viable and practical solution.
 
With Thorax, though, it just makes no sense even on a basic level. Changelings need to feed on love, so they drain it from other creatures, but apparently they can generate their own food so they don’t have to feed, and it’s as easy as choosing to do so. So instead of a species with a harmful, deceptive nature that still has the potential to overcome it, we’ve got a species that can easily overcome their need for outside sustenance but never thought to do so until just now.

I realized they could’ve done the insect/bug motiff much, much worse than this

I think it depends mostly on presentation. Ember is overall pleasing and nice to look at, while Thorax looks… very colorful and weird, specially in comparison to the more simple yet effective black changelings.  
Also, it kinda gives a wrong vibe that, in order to show they’re good, they change their whole appearance, like it kinda defeats the purpose of The Times They Are A Changeling of “appearances don’t make the pony/changeling”.

Ugh I just watched finale and I can say 3 things  
new design is horrible, changelings looked awesome and now they are flying glitter colorful puke, why they did this I can’t wrap my head around (outside of obvious toy selling shiet) if they just lost holes and even get glitter wings or something it would be great especially with possibility of further episodes with them etc  
second trixie was best, every scene with her was funny and interesting, freaking outstanding characterization  
third yiss Chrysalis is still evil and don’t look like baby rainbow fart but big minus to no echo-voice what she had on start :/

I’m fine with it for the same reasons, plus the fact that Chrysalis escaped and can make more changelings. And because we still have fanwork to provide plenty of black chitinous bugpones.

I thought that the way the show implied the Changelings were holey, love-starved parasites was pretty clever, and the means by which they’ve renewed themselves as a species was a satisfying one. I really don’t mind their appearances or their colorations either.
 
But at the same time…
 
I think I’m really going to miss the Changelings’ old design, and the potential that they had for both bad and good before their ultimate fate was laid out in the show. I suppose I’m one of those folks who may have preferred that they remained somewhat dark and ambiguous.

that’s something interesting to think about (that might not be addressed properly in the show): will ponies who still remember the changeling attack still view the new changelings as the old ones? something something about a snake that sheds it’s skin is still a snake (not sure if it’s an actual saying).

Chances are, I fully expect Changelings to be complete experts in speading love and friendship with their chest cannons and entirely self-sufficient upon founding a new kingdom, with approximately zero effort. Assuming the patterns present within this series continue. lel
 
However, I had a thought for the last week or so after the Tinypop airing, that Thorax and his followers become naturally attracted to Twilight’s Castle and the magic eminating from it, then later become Twilight’s Royal Guard, as their presumed newfound abilities would benefit most in a magical conduit for love and friendship. Also assuming their newfound abilities do something useful in relation to Twilight’s job. X3
 
It ought to be noticeable all we can do is assume because relatively nothing is known about Mega Evolved Changelings and their abilities. Self-generators of love, create marshmallow string instead of Alien goo, useless Christmas decorations, no, yeah, we don’t know nothing. Actually, I’m quickly reminded of Princess Twilight, how fans could only speculate and imagine her new role based on the last six minutes of E13, but that only subsided after, eh, three years. XD
 
Should also mention Changelings becoming Crystal Guard is also possible, but I wish to think it’d be derivative, and that become Twilight’s Guard would be a more reasonable use of resources and obviously, Changelings and Twilight’s Castle are a perfect fit together as both are seizure-inducing colour bombs. :3
