They have enough reason not to trust her because she has severe and legitimate mental health issues which have not been addressed.
 
We’re talking about a pony who seemed perfectly content about killing Twilight and letting Equestria fall into ruin just minutes before a quick little speech presumably made her completely, 100% good…..somehow.
 
Furthermore, Starlight really should be doing more to earn the viewer’s trust. I still can’t help but think that Twilight and Spike are not safe living under the same roof as Starlight.

What if Starlight really is the biggest villain of all time and is simply pretending untill now to be good and manipulating everyone, being friends with the elements of harmony so she can find a true way to destroy them in a way that won’t doom the future and make her the sole ruler of all of equestria?

The actual “redemption” was handled equally awfully due to time constraints. The difference is that Discord wasn’t fully persuaded then and still hasn’t completely turned into a do-gooder, while Glimmer did a complete 180­° in five minutes and is now behaving entirely differently.

Spirit of chaos, disharmony, and constant change, of course. As opposed to someone who grew up hating others. Ask a psychiatrist how hard it is to treat a sociopath - they’ll just learn psychological terms instead and continue on with their hating and manipulation.  
Also, sociopaths are REALLY FUCKING GOOD at pretending otherwise. Even if you spend time with one, unless you’re good judge of character or have encountered psychos before, you’ll be unlikely to pick up on the whole “sociopath playing a role of a goodieguy” thing.

One bad act can be erased and still be good writing. A fucking LIFETIME of bitterness, regret, and enslaving ponies cannot, and turning from that is bad writing.

You gotta admit this is pretty true, she went from one the most evil villans in the show to being a a good guy pretty much instantly.

don’t get me wrong i think Starlight Glimmer was better developed than Sunset.
 
also there is something no one has brought up yet, before Twilight becoming an alicorn we had 2 unicorns, 2 pegasi and 2 earthponies, then rarity become the single unicorn while there was still pairs for the others, all the writters did was restore balance again to the mane6/7 making it 2 unicorns 2 pegasi 2 earthponies AND 1 alicorn

This is really getting annoying. When are people going to stop crying about this whole thing. It happened, it was mediocre, get over it. Worse things have happened before.

Sorry OP, but when Discord betrayed his friends and sold them out to Tirek, that reset his counter to zero.
 
They forgave him pretty much instantly after that. Not even a season of mistrust after that, he got instant forgiveness. It should have made them trust him less, and yet it made them trust him MORE for… reasons.

Discord is a spirit of chaos that has been trapped in stone for a thousand years after enslaving the land.  
Starlight is a unicorn who had issues regarding cutie marks since her childhood.  
Tell me, which one would be easier to befriend?

I would argue it’s the reverse, honestly. I personally despised Discord’s redemption and it’s left a pretty sour taste with me for the character. It felt forced, aggravatingly so.

This actually just proves Discord’s harder to control because of his inexplicable nature. We don’t know Discord’s origin, or what drove him to spreading chaos in the first place, making it hard for the Mane6 to understand and befriend him. Because of this lack of understanding, they didn’t (and still don’t fully) trust him.
 
The Mane6 knew of Starlight’s motives and her origin, and she’s less random than Discord. Once they’ve gotten past the initial issue (Starlight hating Cutie Marks and the Mane6), they had no reason to not trust her.

I maintain that S6 Glimmer is a separate entity from S5/Villain Glimmer because it’s the only way for this above to happen that isn’t a huge flashing neon sign “WRITERS HANDLED THIS CHARACTER COMPLETELY INCOMPETENTLY AND SHOULD BE REDUCED TO WRITING FEMALE POWER FANTASY FICTION”..

Are we really continuing to bloody argue about this? Geez, whether you like her or not, I think everyone’s tired of arguing their standpoints at this time.
 
It should also be noted Discord continues to harass the main six and has, in the past, betrayed them. It should also be reminded that Fluttershy has pretty much always put trust in Discord since his initial reformation.

It’s fiction. It’s up to the writers.
