@zippysqrl
On a side note, is there any particular reason to use exactly flashlight and not spike and rarity for example as was suggested below? Was this intentional or not?
@Background Pony #2C20
No, we can’t, if it’s not a big deal for you, fine, but there are a lot of people for whom it is. With arguments like yours you can justify pretty much anything.
@Background Pony #91C2
I didn’t say/don’t think that’s the case. They probably didn’t consider all aspects of implementing this image, or, quite possible, whoever approved this didn’t know how the coding of the website would affect spoilered image icons.
Which is the entire source of my concern; people are going to see things they responsibly filtered while searching for unrelated terms (a whooping 4 out of 1260 “Flashlight” tagged images are tagged “Interspecies”.
@Background Pony #2C20
it’s not just that, it appears in place of the thumbnail image for anyone who spoilers(but doesn’t hide) the interspecies tag. (on the plus side, that’s only 17 people)
Can we stop acting like this is a big deal, people? It’s a small picture in the upper left corner!
I highly doubt it’s going to cause major issues. If it does, then that just plain sucks for the people who get so
easily offended by a small picture in the upper left corner for a tag titled “interspecies”. It’s not the end of the world.
@Soarinjack
>Why would you deliberately antagonize the very people who uses the filters as advised
Probably they thought it will be pretty smart and funny to antagonize people who responsibly use filters and not starting any dramas, because why not right? Kinda screws up all of the “if you don’t like FS filter him and you won’t have to see him again” arguments.
I know the image wont crop in the actual search results, but whenever a member searches for “interspecies” they’ll see the icon in the upper left corner. Even if they have Flashlight filtered.
And considering the “this will cause drama”/“incoming duckerisms”/“popcorn ready” vs. “argle-bargle-bargle” comment count is something like 13:2, it just shows; the filters works! Why would you deliberately antagonize the very people who uses the filters as advised? The very ones who act responsible with their own personal boundaries? The people who don’t use filters are beyond reach either way.
And even then, you had the option of making a Sparity image. You know, same concept, and the only thing 99.999999% would object to is the “Sparity” tag (and considering his infatuation is canon, that’s a low bet) as opposed to the “equestria girls”, “flash sentry”, “flashlight” and “princess twilight” tags here.
Don’t know… just feels like the mods did this one for the lulz. And this is coming from someone who are entirely indifferent to Flash and Flashlight (except when done by dm29, because that shit is adorable).
My advice: make the Spoilered Image Icon in searches compatible with personal filters, adn every thing is honky-dory.
@Background Pony #2C20
Just makes it kinda difficult to tell random, butthurt people causing drama to “just use filters”, when that’s no guarantee.
Even if this BP was a bit salty, s/he’s kidna got a point. I thought spoiler images were supposed to try and be as inoffensive as possible? Choosing one of the more controversial ships in the fandom for one seems counter-intuitive… Like, the mods can no longer use the “if you don’t like it, filter it out” argument against people who dislike Flashlight anymore. Is all the grief the mods will get for that really worth this image?
@SuppliedRelic
Well they could at least use sparity for that case, as one of more liked examples that alot more people feel okay with or neutral towards it, but everything about this picture just screams bait. I just lost a little more respect about this site and staff.
@SuppliedRelic
Yeah just as I thought, I’m sure a lot of folks who filtered flash sentry or flashlight will be very grateful, or they can just, you know, “get over themselves xDD”, I’m finished.
@SuppliedRelic
I’m not asking about a lesson of tolerance, I’m asking what’s the point in filters if you can’t even hide the stuff you don’t like and it shows up in some other unexpected place in form of spoiler images, and you supposed to “ignore it” rather than to not see it completely like before, give me the solution here.
@SuppliedRelic
this site is full of immature people who can’t even take a joke, and gets angry by anything. that’s the world that we live (and i cant wait for this world explode)
@Background Pony #FA12
I never said that you needed to like him. It would be best if you got over this pointless hatred and just ignore him since he is here to stay for the foreseeable future.
@SuppliedRelic
So if I don’t wanna get over myself and hid him for a reason and still be able to see his face despite the filters that exist just for that? You won’t force me to like him with all this “get over yourself” crap.
@Background Pony #FA12
People who don’t like Flash Sentry need to get over themselves. The assistant that made this spoiler image happens to like the ship.
