The writers did say that in Season 3, they wanted to give Sombra a “Sauron feel”

Sombra’s using civilians as cannon fodder. All the more reason to want him 6 feet under.

I don’t think think they are actually being controlled. Sombra already broke them enough to do whatever. The helmets seem to suppress fear so nopony ends up deserting.

He’s brutal enough to do absolutely anything.

Grim, but effective. Not only does it prevent any insubordination and desertion but it also makes the enemy hesitate to attack as they know they’re facing an innocent victim, unless the enemy is as ruthless as the enslaver is.

True, but then again these are the events that would have happened. While he didn’t do much he would have done some horrible acts.

Truebut, and not defending it here, alternate universe means this isn’t exactly the same Sombra.

I think this might have been the darkest moment in the show we’ve seen yet.

This makes my “King Sombra did literally nothing wrong” argument a little bit harder to stand on.

This was a very threatening scene, you could always wonder why a soldier fights for such a corrupt leader and when it’s shown that his troops are actually hypnotized to follow orders it makes fighting Sombra not only worse since you’re technically killing civilians but if you’re buddy is captured then you might end up fighting your old friend as well.
