I’m so confused. At first I thought it was a harmless stupid joke that combined two words into one word so it would sound funny and therefore people would laugh at it. But I guessed wrong?

Eh. Almost 2 in the morning for me and I’m just fed up with the drama over this whole thing.
In the end, I sit down and watch My Little Pony, then talk about it with my friends. That’s what the show means to me. Friendship.

We all have things that upset us, that is how being human works and we can’t control other people. But we can always control ourselves. I think the worst thing that came from the internet is people don’t know how to back down from confrontation anymore which just causes an unnecessary amount of petty arguing that keeps spinning in circles.

This is why I don’t like the extremes of either side of this argument. Nobody is going about this in a mature or calm way.
In short, many people of different genders feel pretty fucking entitled to what is primarily a show made for children.
It would be a lot easier if those who like the show for one reason kept amongst themselves and those that like the show for another reason keep amongst themselves and stop throwing tempers about how bad the other side is.
There are people out there who sexualize shit. Good for them. As long as they’re not forcing that crap into the faces of others they can do that if they want. Then there’s people who don’t like it sexualized. They have ever right to enjoy the show without things they don’t like in the fandom. Then there’s deliberately looking for drama or what you don’t like.
People who don’t like pony porn should just not pay any attention to it, and people who like pony porn shouldn’t bother people who don’t like it.
My Little Pony’s original demographic is young girls and that is a known fact. That doesn’t mean that men can’t like the show, but pointing out ways that “men are treated unfairly” Mysandry does exist in real life, but to say it exists in a cartoon created for little girls is pointless. These writers are not going into indepth planning to write perfectly politically correct episodes that are as meaningful as a work of art or music. They are making a cartoon meant to entertain for 22 minutes every week and you can’t honestly expect them to put that much consideration into how male characters are portrayed.

As for rape jokes, I will agree they are offensive and tasteless, but why are rape jokes so taboo when it’s common to see jokes about murder, suicide, child-abuse, and god knows what else? It feels like a huge double standard at what point we declare a joke “offensive” and humor is an extremely personal thing. Everyone has their own sense of humor, and chances are that someone somewhere will get offended by any joke.
Anyways, all this is about a TV show of magical talking cartoon horses so I really don’t see why everyone is taking it so seriously. Just like what you like about My Little Pony and don’t be a dick to other people.

Also, threatening to rape or kill someone is never okay. So on that regard I do defend PinkiePony to an extent.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

@Background Pony #D998 Just read the damn thing before you comment please. And no, “no fun allowed” when said “fun” is maliciously done at the expense of others. Pinkie Pie told Rainbow Dash not to prank Fluttershy in “Griffin the Brush Off” because a prank would hurt Fluttershy emotionally in a way it wouldn’t their other friends. What exactly is so difficult to understand about that concept?

@Tenafly Viper I’ve actually been following the whole thing over on tumblr. And to be honest? I agree with Tara; rape jokes are not inherently funny, especially when they in ANY shape or form are at the expense of the victim and/or portray the molester as some kind of “lovable scamp” of some kind or another. The knee-jerk reaction of a lot of “bronies” to having Molestia called out for the despicable portions of its content, namely either trying to rationalize it away, try and make the complainers feel like they are in the wrong, up to and including the stalking, death threats and harassment perpetrated against Pinkiepony, is a CLEAR indicator that there is something inherently WRONG in a part of the fandom.

The fact of the matter is, this isn’t some sort of “morally grey area” situation. Rape, sexual, emotional, psychological and physical abuse of ANY kind is morally reprehensible and wrong. As for the argument “well, humor let’s us talk about it in a ‘safe’ way”, that would be lovely, were it not for the fact that whenever rape is EVER used as part of a joke, the joke makes the VICTIM the punchline, the fall guy, for the humor, NOT the ABUSER THEMSELVES! If “humor” merely protects the abuser and victimizes the abused even further, then I’m sorry, but that does the exact opposite of “letting us talk about it in a ‘safe’ way”.

People go on about their “freedom of speech”, but the thing is, they always seem to forget two caveats to that rule: 1.) Just because you CAN say something, doesn’t mean you SHOULD, and 2.) You have the freedom to say whatever you want to say, but that does NOT mean you have the freedom to not face the consequences of your actions. In our situation, if you make rape jokes, be prepared to be called on it by people who have every right to be angry about the fact that you are making light of something that is very hurtful and traumatic to a large majority of people.

When I look at this picture, it brings to mind how a lot of fans cry wolf when they claim to be “victims of misandry”, or that the show is “misandric in nature” or has “misandric elements”. This, despite the fact that, while there is such a thing as misandry, it is nowhere near as prevalent or pervasive in American society as misogyny is, and that the show itself is actually incredibly progressive in how it treats ALL of its characters with equality.

For example, recently someone over on tumblr posted something about how Big Macintosh is marginalized in his own family and has no say in anything. This was my response:

2. Granny Smith and Applejack Are Both Heads Of The Family. Big Macintosh Never Has A Word To Say In That

“Granny Smith I will grant you is the Matriarch of the Apple Family, but only due to her age and seniority. Which makes sense, when you think about it, considering she was one of the first Apples to settle what would eventually become the town of Ponyville. Is she necessarily the Matriarch of the ENTIRE Apple Family Clan though? No, she’s just one of the senior members of it. Remember all the family members that showed up for both Apple Family Reunions (first one in the series premiere, the second one during season 3)? Each one has their own leading matriarch or patriarch, depending on their own personal family history. That Granny Smith is the Matriarch of the Ponyville Apple Family is to be expected, since she’s the Grandmother of it AND is presumably a widow (otherwise, she’d be sharing her “head of the family” position with her husband). This isn’t at all surprising, considering that in a lot of families, the grandmothers/great-grandmothers often outlive their husbands, thus becoming the leaders of their families.

“As for Applejack and Big Macintosh, both of them are on the same equal footing, family position wise. The only difference between the two is that, with their family/sibling dynamic, Applejack is the hot-headed, action-oriented individual, whereas Big Macintosh is the level-headed, reactionary individual. The reason why this stands out so much is because usually in fiction, it would be the exact opposite; “normally”, Big Macintosh would have Applejack’s personality, and Applejack Big Macintosh’s.

“Besides that though, in the original series bible by Lauren Faust, Sweet Apple Acres was going to be owned by Big Macintosh exclusively, with Applejack running the day-to-day affairs. While this has never been confirmed in the show itself, there’s the strong implication that Applejack and Big Macintosh share JOINT OWNERSHIP of the family farm. We just see Applejack’s side of the business more because she’s one of the main characters. Big Macintosh’s contribution is EQUAL to Applejack’s and just as highly valued; in Applebucking Season, when Big Macintosh was out of commission due to an injury, Applejack was unable to take care of the orchard by herself; where it not for Big Macintosh’s speed and physical stamina, the Apple Family wouldn’t be able to run the machine that turns their apples into apple cider.

“What’s more, the show/show universe doesn’t condemn Big Macintosh for being the more withdrawn, reactionary sibling. He’s allowed to be in the role most franchises would put a female character in, and he’s ACCEPTED as an equally valid part of the family and team for it. The only reason why it raises eyebrows (for some people) is because usually, Big Macintosh’s personality/role would be filled by a female character, not by a male one, and especially not one as massive and strong as Big Macintosh is.”

The fact is, there is a significantly large portion of the adult (usually male) MLP fandom that has become hide-bound and set in its ways, that treats being a fan of the show like a “boys club”, with all the “rights” and “privileges” that entails. Thus, when they are called for their stupid bullshit, like the prevalence of rape jokes (not just with Celestia/Molestia either; with just the newest episode alone, we saw >>522096 this moment, where Pinkie greets Applejack as her new cousin, turn into >>521914 where Pinkie is saying “It’s Rape Time!”), they lash out because they don’t like having their “boy’s club” atmosphere intruded on. They don’t want to police themselves, they don’t want to consider others, they want to have their way, and they will act like children and throw tantrums in order to get it.

Does that mean that ALL adult fans of MLP, whether they call themselves bronies, pegasisters or not, are like that? No, of course not. Nobody is saying that. Nobody but the most extremist on the opposite spectrum has said that. Does that mean that we should just ignore stupid bullshit like that though, pretend its not there? No, we should not at all. We should not tolerate it, especially when doing so involves both ostracizing and hurting people who have gone through legitimate trauma and pain in the past, and especially when it involves twisting a show and its characters, which are MEANT to be a positive, enriching experience for the TARGET AUDIENCE (which, as much as many “bronies” claim they are, they are not that target audience; small children and young girls are), into the exact opposite of what they are supposed to BE, just to fit the warped tastes of those making the changes.
