I suppose it is just a case of people seeing what they want to see. You seemed to gloss over the conflicting thoughts Rarity had about appropriateness, the issues brought up by the age difference by when they were younger, and all the lovely problems this ship has. A good Sparity acknowledges and addresses these problems, instead of sweeping them under the rug like so many others do.

If you aren’t yet at the maturity level where you can judge quality independent of content, then this conversation is quite pointless. You are perfectly entitled to like or dislike whatever you wish.

Back on topic, I do get a good laugh out of this picture. She rejects him for a purely physical reason, and then changes her mind because of another purely physical reason. I think that’s why this is funny and not disturbing, because she acknowledges that he really is everything she wanted in a stallion.

The purpose of that story is the sex. To think otherwise is incredibly naive. Twenty minutes after inviting Spike into the boutique Rarity has him in bed and is having Super Orgasms. The story contains no romance. Spike admits that he has always liked her and in an effort to not spend the night alone she brings him to bed. There is no exploration of the relationship, there is no drive reason to root for them to be together, and sex is an inevitable a end of the work as it is any other piece of pornography. Your condescension of “people like me” does not change the fact that it was clop, not romance, and that the story ends with Rarity simply marking Spike as the best sex she’s had, not loving him. I am entirely comfortable and justified in putting it into that category when the author, who displayed ample talent and ability to do otherwise, chose to make it something far less than it could have been… to just make a piece of clop.

Hah, I love talking to people like you. A romance story with sex and without love is unrealistic, I can agree with you there. But just because a story contains sex does not make all stories with sex created equal.

Sex has a purpose in a story when it is the culmination OF the story. Too many writers write sex for the act itself, forgetting that it can have a very meaningful and profound effect on a story if done correctly.

It’s a similar concept to the ‘Anime Kiss.’ When done wrong, it is lame and makes us roll out eyes. When done right, however, it really makes us feel like the emotions of the characters are real.

To discount a story simply because it chooses to portray a more mature aspect of life is incredibly childish. Sure many stories get it wrong, more than I can count, but that doesn’t mean that it is impossible for some to get it right.

The story was about sex, not love, and whatever its other virtues it does not deserve praise above what it actually was… a cleverly written piece of clop, but clop and nothing more.

It is a perfect example of a story where the clop portion of it played second to the actual story. It expanded on the tale, it wasn’t the entire purpose. That is rarely done, and I feel it should be respected when it is.
