I think in this universe the girls were just aged-up to that of High School Freshmen, just the same way it seems the Mane six’s analogues have been aged-down* to High School Seniors, so they could cram in as many cast members and extras as they could manage.
*(I maintain the opinion that, in Equestria, they are at least in their 20’s, since most of them have full-time jobs and/or live on their own)
If they’re almost exactly the same frames, they’ll get merged forward (assuming someone reports them).

dunno about you, but in my country, ‘universal’ schools exist, where kids aging 6 and high-schoolers attend together. from what I saw, canterlot high is something similar, so the age range is 6-18 maybe?
