“colored pinnae” is tagged exclusively by one user
Yes, I created it to mean the colored inside of an ear.
“pinnae” means “the visible external ear”
Oh, then the name is wrong. I guess I misunderstood an equine anatomy diagram.
Isn’t colored ears more general? It includes things like colored eartips (>>2920793, >>2835754), colored whole ears (>>2788570, >>2865804), patterns on ears (>>2877503, >>2358579), and combinations of these.
I guess colored pinnae should imply colored ears.

From what I can tell as a non-expert using Google, “pinna/pinnae” includes the whole thing, not specifically front/inside vs. back/outside, for any kind of creature.
I found a number of scientific-seeming terms pointing out various specific features of outer ears, but not one referring to the inner/sound-relevant area in its entirety. May I suggest “colored ear interior”?
(I have also for some time wanted an “inner ear fluff” tag but didn’t want to make yet another very specific tag if it weren’t something at least several people cared about.)

Looks like you are right.
colored ear interior
“Ear interior” sounds like it means inner ear (the ear part inside your head). I guess “colored pinna interior” would be the technically correct tag name. But whatever, “colored ear interior” works too, I guess.
“inner ear fluff” tag
You mean fluff on the inside of the pinna as opposed to fluff on the outside of it? I guess it should imply ear fluff then. I could make this distinction when tagging, but I’m not sure how many people would tag this consistently.

Well, that’s why I suggested “colored ear interior” instead of “colored inner ear” ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Could instead do “colored inside ear”, but that doesn’t keep the format of “colored earX” which might help with discovery.

Also, I just found colored ear fluff which is not exactly what you were tagging for, but very similar. I see you already knew about this one. Really feels like splitting hairs, now.
pun 1000% intended
It also has a significant portion involving inner ear fluff

So, didn’t we figure out that “colored pinnae” should be renamed?
It’s still in use.
Moreover, I see it being applied to images I don’t see any reason for it to - such as >>3310391, >>3311084, or >>3294432 (that just looks like shading in the ear) or >>3311346 (???)

Nothing, yet. Hopefully the other BP will chime in again. I had proposed renaming it to “colored ear interior” which they had half-heartedly agreed with.

Since we haven’t come up with anything better, I think we should go forward with making “colored ear interior” the main tag and “colored pinnae” an alias of it (for compatibility, so that people using this tag have some time to transition to the new name). Later the “colored pinnae” alias could be removed completely.

Yeah, this is likely to be just shading.

For the foreseeable time, my use of Derpibooru is going to be near zero, so I think it would be better if you cleaned those images up. In cases where it’s not clear whether the tag applies or not, I’d say just leave them as they are. If you really want to spend a lot of time on ensuring the tags are in order, you could try to contact the artist (to ask if it’s shading) or the tagger (to tell them not to tag shading as “colored”).
