I’m sure this topic has been the talk for some time, but I haven’t seen a thread dedicated to it yet.
Recently there has been a bunch of screencaps uploaded of My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale, so much so that it pretty much clogs everyone’s feed. Now screencaps have been a thing for a long time, and they’re fine, but the uploader is literally posting every frame from the latest episode in rapid succession. It gets to a point that makes you wonder why not just upload the whole episode in full. And if you follow a specific tag (like a character for example), literally half of your feed is clogged by all those screencaps and it can be difficult finding actual art or a specific image. And it’s only for TYT. Make Your Mark doesn’t suffer from this at all (though I don’t get the weird RP descriptions).
Again, its not the screencaps themselves people seem to have issue with, screencap uploading has been a thing since FIM, and screencaps can be useful as reference sheets for art. The issue is that the uploader is literally spamming every single frame from an episode, and from what I’ve heard, FIM screencaps were never uploaded frame by frame at a rapid pace, just notable moments.
I don’t know if there is any way of stopping this. Obviously the easy answer is just “filter the TYT or screencap tag”, but that still doesn’t really fix the issue of rapid uploads. Telling the uploader to stop doesn’t seem to work at all (which gets me wondering if they’re a bot). If you want to watch a TYT episode, that’s fine, but not every frame of an episode needs to be posted all at once, and with it returning to a weekly airing schedule, it’s gonna be a massive headache navigating through all the screencap spam. I know I’m not the only one who’s taken issue with the rapid spam.

As someone that browses this site daily for g5 content (but does so without an account), the screencap spam is annoying. I’m also fairly certain that the tyt screencap spammer is from Indonesia. There are (as of me writing this post), 770 images tagged as “Indonesian”, or 52 pages. The oldest Indonesian image is from 11 years ago. The tyt Indonesian screencap spam includes 40 pages worth of captioned tyt screencaps over the course of a single year (with about 2 pages worth of Indonesian memes and fanart alongside the tyt screencaps). Compare this to 10 pages of organic g4 fanart/content over the course of 11 years.
This isn’t even counting all of the screencaps that the user has uploaded without Indonesian subtitles, of which there are probably double that amount.

Indeed, there are ways to set up a filter to mitigate it, but especially because a bulk of them are being uploaded anonymously, it’s harder to be selective with a filter.
There isn’t a site rule that directly addresses upload flooding. Ciaran wrote an opinion that because the default images-per-page is 25, uploading 10-12 images per 25 total uploads to the site is appropriate to not flood. Looking back, I see some clusters of uploads in excess of that.
So, because they’re uploaded anonymously, you can’t report a user - but you can report one of the uploads, use Rule #6 (site abuse) or #n (spirit of the rules) and write in the report description that an anonymous user is making a flood of uploads. Then, moderators can decide what, if anything, to do.
(though I don’t get the weird RP descriptions).
I don’t see what you’re talking about, certainly not within the past day or two of uploads. Got examples?
