Mane 6 as Gems(steven universe)

So, after this week’s kinda-sorta Season Finale for Steven Universe, I can’t stop thinking of an FIM AU where the Mane Seven are gems (superpowered humanoid aliens). They’d probably use different names, since all of the gems in the series (sans Steven) have gemstone-themed naming, but I haven’t entirely worked those out yet.

Also, all these roles and whatnot are tentative, so feel free to suggest better ideas if you’ve got them.

Applejack is a hardworking, folksy earthbound gem (Copal? Copaljack?) and one of the few surviving members of Twilight Sparkle’s heroic “Harmony Gem” faction. Her gem is on the back of her left hand, and she can summon lariats from it.

Fluttershy (No gem name decided yet) is a conflicted homeworld gem. She’s been told all her life that the Homeworld’s mission is necessary (which has brought her and her drones into conflict with the Earth’s heroic Harmony Gems), but recent information has come to light that has made her question her position. Her gem is where the back of her skull meets her neck, and she can summon slings from it.

Pinkie Pie is a hedonistic-yet-heroic Harmony Gem and Applejack’s teammate. Her gem is on her throat, and she can summon firecrackers from it.

Not much is known about Rainbow Dash, except her gem was corrupted and she was imprisoned in an artifact for years. She later escaped and while she blames the Harmony Gems for her imprisonment, she simply wants to return to the gem homeworld. Her gem is on the small of her back, and she can pull javelins from it.

Rarity is a homeworld gem bureaucrat who’s used her connections and networking to get assigned to Earth–one of the “easy planets”–for the “Homeworld’s mission.” She’s just trying to do her job, but a rebellious group of earthbound gems calling themselves “the Harmony Gems” keep breaking her expensive technology. Jerks. Her gem is on the back of her right hand, and she can summon swords and knives (that look suspiciously like giant diamond-shaped knitting needles).

Spike is an excitable eleven-year-old half-gem half-human hybrid who’s taken up living with the Harmony Gems Applejack and Pinkie Pie to learn his powers and become a hero. While AJ and Pinkie are slightly jaded by years of fighting other gems and gem monsters, he still believes the best in everyone, even the seemingly antagonistic gems like Rainbow Dash, Rarity, and Fluttershy. He might hold the hope of uniting the fragmented gem species, or at least gaining a few new gem recruits for the Harmony Gems. His gem is located over his heart, and his abilities right now seem to relate to defending himself and others.

In this AU, Twilight Sparkle is the former gem leader of the Harmony Gems and Spike’s mother. She died giving birth to him.
