[NSFW][PROPOSAL] Standardizing the Character-Breast Tags

Mutual implications or displaying both in general doesn’t address one of the reasons to alias into the standardized format - that of people not wanting to see language like that tagged on their art/uploads. The only way I could see us having our cake and eating it too is to make it possible to choose which alias you prefer displaying, but there are a whole host of things that make this impractical, such as where to store the information, and how users find all the aliases to switch in the first place.
 
Personally, I think the language of the pun tags is no more offensive than any of our other tags, and certainly the futa puns are innocuous. As for practicality, as Ciaran said, they both work. Actually, I think neither one really works if you don’t know the tag exists. Discoverability and therefore usefulness of related tags is limited right now, and imo is the real issue with pun tags that needs to be addressed.
 
At the time of writing, the only way to find all of the breast pun tags is to search “busty” in the tag search, which only displays the standardized format - you’d have to click each one to see what the pun is. I believe tag groups will ultimately help the tag search immensely, and are necessary regardless of standardized tag names.

One of your sentences reminds me, has anyone asked any relevant artists, artists these tags are likely to show up on the works of, about the “not wanting to see boob puns vs. not caring about it” thing?

To the best of my knowledge, we did get a report from an artist who did not want to see the tags, but I don’t remember if there were more. That said, a fair number of the responses in this thread are from users with artist badges, and amongst those it’s a mixed response on which way they wanted the alias to go. It seemed from the responses to be more a question of utility vs. fun than not caring vs. not wanting to see puns, so I don’t think a direct parallel can be drawn.

I don’t see people who hate puns enough to object to their existence in tags as being fans of Horse Puns The Animated Series tbh.

Couldn’t you also find those tags in the “implied by” list of the breasts tag?
 
Also, still hoping that either both tag types would be shown (don’t care about the wall of tags it might cause on multi character images), or that pun tags will return to being the main tags.

No support. I like my puns.

I’ve only noticed it now because i had no occasion in which i needed to use the tag in the last few days. and i still don’t like it.

Change it back, please. Puns are a part of Derpibooru’s culture.

While I do want to keep the original pun tags, I do understand what it means to standardize it and make it easier for users. Even though it is aliased, most people probably don’t know about it. Hell, I didn’t know about the standardized boob tags until today. So I guess the one of the bigger problems on standardization of the “busty [character name]” tag is exposure.
 
Boob puns are widely accepted because they stand out. But they are also difficult to use. While the standardized version is easier but many probably won’t notice it.
 
I’m leaning towards the boob puns but I wouldn’t mind if it changed anyways.

How much work would it be to compose a list of character related boob puns? Because I’ll probably forget all of them again in an hour, and it might be nice to keep the list for history’s sake.

Hope ya’ll realize the names still exist, just look under the alias names and there they are.
 
I also suggested the idea of a single image to catalogue them all (one of which example I linked it here on an earlier page) for prosperity and what not.
 
While some of you may be bothered by this, I implore you to think and see what this actually changes in the longrun, and to feel beyond your own experiences.

I for one welcome our new, standardized overlords.

I do realize that. and that’s why i supported the aliasing the standardized versions into the commonly-used tags in order to not to just “throw away” the puns but also make the tags easier to find at the same time. Even that way still makes finding these tags easier than finding random obscure ships.

I’ve always supported the use of aliases. You can just type “busty [character name]”, and it will still return the traditional tags.

I agree that making these tags easier to find is the #1 reason for choosing this alias, but I’m still of the opinion that any solution we find for the obscure shipping tags should work here as well. In other words, once we make related tags easier to find, we could return the puns as the primary alias; until then, this will work as a temporary measure. It’s becoming pretty clear that only a handful of people care one way or the other.

I’m leaning for the puns but if we went with the standardized versions, I’m also OK with it. I mean, I can see the appeal over it and it ain’t a bad one.

In which case they only exist in a small space somewhere. I liked them because they were good for a giggle when I saw them under a random image I looked at. Having to actually search for them in a tag description or that one certain image kinda defeats their purpose.  
And in the long run, it might just be a step into the ‘take everything completely seriously, have everything standardized, no fun allowed’ direction, getting rid of Derpibooru’s uniqueness.
