Rooting through it, he finds a few calorie-blocks rotted away from broken seals, various expired pill bottles, cigarettes, old-world polymer banknotes along with a few milligrams of gold, a plastic flaregun, and a skeletonized destroyer carbine broken down and stashed away in a weathered canvas holster.
Discarding garbage-findings out the topside hatch, among other detritus cleared from the passenger areas, he eventually stays reclined upon the roof, scanning sceneries passed on the sides, and occasionally the road behind.

Dives back into the multiped’s engineroom hatch, sealing the door behind him. Reaching a seat and console, he scans hurriedly down a monitor’s list, finding an option titled “AMS screen-defense”. Switching the system on, small lasers and light-machineguns mounted at the uppermost-kneejoint of each walker-leg activate, then begin shooting the incoming mortar-shells; the sky soon becomes peppered with dark erupting clouds of intercepted explosives, conveniently making a dotted-trail in the air that eventually points to the artillery’s origin-point.

it had gotten quiet, the kind of quiet where everyone was jsut cowering and no one dared ask is it over for fear of being wrong.
