The last couple of days of posts here have largely been people discussing their own take on the site’s approach to the recent riots and our support of the Black Lives Matter movement, or people making sure that their own personal take on all of this has been heard, so it made sense to keep it open so everyone had a place where they could be heard and talk with each other about this.
 
But now we’ve got folks using this thread to post that black lives “really don’t matter” and we would be better off without “them” (as if no one on staff or no one in our community of fans and artists was black), or outright calling for racial war. So, seems like this thread has served its purpose and now is decaying into a haven for people coming here to create drama.
 
So, rather than continuing to monitor this thread for such blatantly rule breaking and unwelcome comments, or bothering to try to have a discussion with someone like that to explain why such bigotry or calls for violence is bad, I’m just going to lock this thread. Let’s just take the usual “by deleting their blatantly racist and vile statements I’m not allowing them their right to freedom of speech” and “all voices deserve to be heard equally” screeds as read.
 
If you feel you have had a forced filter applied to your profile and don’t want to wait for it to expire you of have several options:
 
• please report yourself for a reason of “other” and state your appeal in the text field provided  
• come to one of our support channels (linked on the Contact page) and appeal the forced filter  
• wait until the current fracas ends and the forced filter will expire

If you don’t know why what you did broke our rules, please come to support and someone will help you. If you would prefer being completely banned instead of just blocked on some images, that can be arranged.

I can’t vote on that one either, or comment while logged in. I was under the impression the only thing I was blocked from was the “black lives matter”-tagged images.
 
Upon testing, I can’t see any images under the “george floyd protests” tag either when searching- and to my knowledge, I’ve never downvoted anything under that tag.
 
Exactly what are the mods trying to pull?
 
Edit: Can’t see anything tagged with “minneapolis riots”. I don’t think I’ve downvoted that tag either.
 
Further edit: Did more testing. I’ve downvoted three images under the “george floyd riots” tag and none under the “minneapolis riots” tag. You have to be joking if you think three downvotes should be enough to warrant blocking someone from anything.

Although now that they have no problem anymore with silencing dissenting opinions to maintain the illusion that everyone agree with them, they could try it again with a lot more success I guess.

I’m just curious, was the thought of just disabling downvotes globally on the site for the foreseeable future ever a consideration? I mean after all, you can’t brigade things to the “bottom of the pile” if there’s no ability to forcibly send it there in the first place.

Except they already started to expend it to other tags as well.

Well in that case the message seems clear, and that is the mode of behavior and way of thinking towards histrionic highfalutin heifers is unwelcome. I am a bad horse for attacking a protected category with a downvote. I will appeal nothing..

Personally, I still disagree strongly with treating downvoting a large number of images within a tag as identical to indiscriminately downvoting based only on a tag or subject (which is what Rule 6 prohibits), and I maintain that anyone who chooses what to downvote individually should not be considered guilty of vote-bombing. Also, from what I’ve heard, the threshold for what constitutes a “large number” for this system is unreasonably low.
 
I’ll freely admit that I downvoted a large percentage of images under the tag, but I’ve heard complaints from a lot of users who didn’t. And while I did downvote a large percentage, there were less than 40 images in the tag last time I checked, so a large percentage isn’t the same thing as a large number.
 
And while I don’t think this is changes whether our actions count as rule-breaking, I do agree with Penguin Dragneel above that a lot of the artists aren’t behaving themselves well either. I also maintain my objection to the fact this system wasn’t announced to or discussed with the site community before it was put in.

Yes, Blossomforth and The Frowning Pony discuss it more in this thread but, in brief, along with hundreds of other users you were breaking Rule #6 this weekend and instead of banning hundreds of users from any interaction with the site at all we instead added a filter was imposed on your profile so that images you had been breaking Rule #6 on would not show up for you.
 
If you would like to appeal that you can report yourself for a reason of “Other” and describe what you’d like in the text field.

Just came around after a while and I have a creeping feeling that the website started hiding content from my profile. Hmmm…

I’m sorry, but I’m not a fan of how you guys are handling this whole issue.
 
If an image is political, people should be able to discuss the politics in it. Not to mention some of the artists are arguably acting worse than some of the people in the comments.

Me, too. It’s Pride Month, plus we have the whole BLM bullshit on top of it. Some of it is Cloudflare mediations of the DDOS attacks. Some of it is just transients from all the bot traffic hitting the site right now. Given that’s what happened I’ll restore the post.

I believe that is how most people got it to start with, but you would need to go to a support forum like Discord or -help to ask. If you do, you can appeal it at that time.

Replying to myself here with an addendum and an actual report about an issue I’ve had with the site. I’m getting logged off all the time, sometimes only minutes or seconds apart. I was logged in when I typed the comment that got deleted here, but the site signed me out by the time it was posted. I’ll bring this up in an actual bug report thread if the staff want. For now, mentioning it so everyone knows this post was me and that I didn’t want to masquerade as another user.

Strongly agreed. I’ve been active on both Derpibooru and /mlp/ in the past too, but I hadn’t been to /mlp/ in months when all this got started, whereas I’d been visiting Derpibooru almost every day (though not commenting or really doing much else aside from casting upvotes and the occasional downvote, so mods interpreted it as being “inactive”). And yet, staff seem all too eager to attribute the negative votes to /mlp/ and other outside communities rather than considering the possibility that certain images are just off-putting to a lot of people.
 
I actually would’ve stayed away from /mlp/, too. They’re way, way too picky and superior about personal taste there. In the past day or two I’ve dealt with anons losing their heads over the existence of anthro, EQG, exaggerated facial expressions in season 9, and who knows what else- just because they still can’t deal with the fact that someone else likes it. I’d rather talk to people who focus more on what they enjoy than on what they hate. However, /mlp/ ended up being the only place I could go to discuss these changes with others as a group, get details on exactly what effects other people were experiencing, and frankly, have my complaints heard by people who might understand where I was coming from. Ironically, because I was being accused of being from there, I went back there.
 
And over here, I see a lot of the same paranoia and “we need to root out the bad fans” attitude I left /mlp/ months ago to avoid, just aimed at different groups and far too often supported by the mods. As it turns out, treating everyone like your enemy makes a lot of enemies. That’s why I’m advocating for users to comment, vote, and upload freely, no matter how uncomfortable that concept might sometimes be for either side. It might just teach people that no matter how much they hate something, they can complain, they can downvote, they can argue, but they can’t just erase what upsets them and they have no choice but to live with that. It’s what we actually need.

Oh, you’re bypassing your ‘hard filter’. You must be following a direct link to get to it. I didn’t know you could TRY to post on one of those, I thought the comment was flat out not possible. Interesting.
 
Blossomforth and The Frowning Pony discuss it more in this thread but, in brief, along with hundreds of other users you were breaking Rule #6 this weekend and instead of banning hundreds of users from any interaction with the site a filter was imposed on your profile so that images you had been breaking Rule #6 on would not show up for you.
 
Since you’re bypassing the filter, you are still ‘minibanned’ on those images and can not interact with them. Just like a normal ban, but only for BLM images and you may continue to use the rest of the site.
 
These imposed ‘miniban’ filters will be lifted soon, or you may appeal it if you’d like it removed sooner, or take a normal ban in its place if you would prefer.
 
Sorry you weren’t notified of this when it happened - in the future, we hope to add some way for people to know this ‘miniban’ has been applied to them, but right now what seem the best solutions also fuck up site load times horribly.
