Well, it took eight (or nine, depending on how you count from S1) seasons for that development to be cemented for sure, lol.
 
Still, that instance did turn out to be a case of massive foolishness rather than stupidity on Snips’ part (he was pretty much the one that planned it, and he dragged Snails along), because you can’t fix stupid, foolishness, you can, if they’re willing to learn.

Indeed. Snails isn’t the type to let performing under pressure get to him, at all. He wouldn’t think, he just does it, kind of like say, Forrest Gump as portrayed in the film.
 
(In any case, to change the subject a bit, the chances of Snips and Snails going through with an utterly moronic plan like what happened in Boast Busters again is officially dead. Snips was the one to actually question Scootaloo’s boasting about her parents, in The Last Crusade, whereas his S1 self would have done the exact opposite)

There’s a few names I think Gameloft might have made themselves, like maybe Cinnamon Chai unless I’m wrong? Also I saw they call Valley Glamour “Valley Trend” so would that be considered her canon name?

Actually that’s something I’ve always wondered but never looked into…. How canon is the gameloft game exactly? Do they rely entirely on Hasbro to provide names, or do they sometimes do some things themselves?

She’s still called Bon Bon in the Gameloft game. It’s not like ‘only in the past’ I mean right now.

I might be wrong but I was under the impression that Bonbon was only officially used really early on, and then they changed her toys to Sweetie Drops later. The point I was trying to make was that sometimes they do change names for whatever reason, so Hasbro’s official canon isn’t always static or completely reliable, but that still doesn’t take away from both the fun and the validity of us as a community coming up with names.
 
I’m still pretty sure Button Mash was named by the fanbase and was outright adopted by Hasbro and they later included it in the credits to one of the episodes he appeared in. I could still be wrong on that one though.
 

 
As for Snail’s true nursery rhyme origin though, that’s an explanation for the reference but I still find it extremely suspect that the “concerned moral guardian parents” had such a problem with Derpy’s name that one time but never talked about him. I doubt the kind of people who write letters to networks about things like this are really even into the shows they’re complaining about in the first place. I still think it’s hypocritical because regardless of the true meaning, Snails seems like he has more potential to be interpreted the wrong way. And the characters in the show have said his name way more than the ONE time that Derpy was ever muttered.

I think that may be reading too much into the name. Snips and Snails were created to give Cheerilee’s class a couple of troublemaker boys like the pegasus bullies, and snips and snails as names came from the nursery rhyme.
 
And after a couple of buckball episodes he seems to be destined to be a pro athlete. Scratch that, he already is.

Also Bonbon/Sweetie Drops has used both names officially. I can’t believe people still forget this.

Because half the time the show writers adopt our names out of respect or because we as a community just come up with good names sometimes. They’ve adopted the name Button Mash officially for example, and Derpy Hooves is the most famous example where all the writers admitted that this is what the character is known as in the office but they got in trouble that one time because of the dumbass controversy of her name when they actually tried to drop it in the show and since then are more careful about officially acknowledging it. Because “derpy” is apparently offensive to people with real mental deficiencies.
 
Funny because Snails as a concept is arguably more mean of an idea. His special talent IS being slow, but no “moral guardian” parents complained.
 
EDIT: And yes I’m aware that often the show adopts names unofficially from the community but then because of legal issues or some other reason later. Bonbon is a perfect example because officially she is Sweetie Drops, but most people agree she will always be Bonbon to us. My point still stands though, there’s nothing silly or pointless about this. The effort to name characters as a community is exactly as valid as it has been in the past and we’ve already done great things before. I don’t see a reason to make a fuss over this.
 
Of course we did almost just come close to naming the Sphinx Isis, which is a completely valid NON-TERRORIST name with its own origin and meaning, but like the Swastika, would have had bad implications in the real modern world, but honestly even if people meant it in the most pure, non-offensive way possible Hasbro wouldn’t have dared accepted that pitch from us and I’m willing to bet neither would Derpibooru’s staff if it really did come down to that and enough people voted for the meme juice. But I’m not here to revive that argument - I’m saying that these polls aren’t perfect, because the community isn’t perfect. But I’m willing to bet you’d get the same kind of results from any other forum where bronies would come together to make a decision like this.

I know I’m late to the party, but why are we naming them? If the show cannon gives them a name, I.E. Mr. Shy and Mrs. Shy, then we really have no right to rename them. To do so is silly, and seemingly pointless as not everyone is going agree or accept the name you give them, heck some fans will never see this poll and be confused as to why the name is “wrong” in the tags.

I’d say keeping a promise others can’t hold you to counts as at least a moral standard.
