Well, by changing the memcached size to 8GB and seeing no performance problems, I demonstrated that there was no value in a cache larger than 8GB.

For a site to be able to handle a large amount of users, data is often cached on the server so that it doesn’t require slow calculations or requests to the database every time a page is accessed. This results in a much faster site and less load on the server.
 
To “expire” a cache means that the old data is cleared, and new data will take its place as other pages are accessed. The result of this change is that you’ll be seeing up-to-date stats more frequently now.

I decreased the size of the cache on Luna to see how it would affect site performance. So far, decreasing the cache size from 24GB to 8GB has made no notable impact on site performance, but decreased memory usage by a lot. As a side effect of this, some caches (like your profile stats) will expire quicker.

I see that the statistics of my profile (comments, metadata updates, etc.) updates a lot more faster than before, usually I needed to wait at least 5 days until I have new information.

May be network related as the ISPs update ther dns caches. I’ve sometimes find myself in a situation where everything slows down and images from here refuse to load.

Some mod needs to help this guy who can’t see shit. It’s a big problem
