The safe tag doesn’t mean “safe for work”, nor even “safe for an average functional adult”. It means, very specifically, “safe for children, in the manner of the show”. Yes, this excludes discussion of anything sexier than Rarity’s unserious flirting or more violent than unaddressed mean-words bullying or consequence-free cartoon knocks.
 
You have “suggestive” and “semi-grimdark” for anything over that line (but only just). Things that could be OK at a workplace or a topic for well-behaved discussion.

I’m arguing that. “Grimdark” should be for depictions and vivid descriptions of grimdark things, not just mentions and acknowledgements.

Stuff directly related to 9/11 should probably be grimdark or semi-grimark, yes. Stuff related to the “Cupcakes” fic is almost always grimdark, given 90% of the fic is torture porn.
 
I’m pretty sure no one would argue that a cute image of Sweetie Belle saying “sexually abusing and beating someone into submission is not OK” should be tagged ‘safe’.

Does this also apply to “9/11 never forget” images and anything that mentions “Cupcakes”? In my experience, that standard has only been applied to rape. It seems to me that the tag should be for depictions or vivid descriptions of grimdark things, and not just for brief mentions of something grimdark in the abstract.

If an image covers a topic that is by all rights and mean pretty fucking grimdark, then regardless of the message of the image it needs to be tagged with grimdark.

So if an image is just Scootaloo saying “Rape is wrong!”, that counts as grimdark?

Please understand that this site was created, is funded and operated exclusively by volunteers; we physically cannot monitor every upload, and our tagging rules do specify that anyone can add tags that are correct and relevant.

If it talks about it as a thing, the tag is applicable and implies a grimdark tag.

I’m not talking about ponies getting raped; I’m talking about posts that just talk about it as a thing that exist and get marked as questionable, not grimdark.

The ‘rape’ tag implies the default spoilered tag ‘grimdark’. If an image references rape directly, it should be tagged with ‘rape’ (which will auto add ‘grimdark’).

Is there some kind of policy that anything that so much as mentions rape is “questionable”?
