I find Sonic Retro a lot LESS informative than the Sonic News Network, frankly. For one thing, Retro has absolutely nothing about Sonic Boom and barely has anything for Lost World or the comics. Sure, SNN doesn’t really talk about ROM hacks or prototypes all that much, but I still find it a lot more informative overall.

I have been a sonic fan since I played Sonic 3, 15 years ago.

According to Sonic Generations (3DS), I’ve been a Sonic fan for 21 years.

Sonic 2 is by far my favorite ‘classic’ Sonic game. (evidenced by my seven or so Genesis carts of it…) It just has the perfect feel, I love how it’s not too complicated, had a TON of lore/history behind it’s creation, had so much left out (see [Sonic 2 Beta](https://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_2_(Simon_Wai_prototype) and [Nick Arcade Beta](https://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_2_(Nick_Arcade_prototype) for more info) launched more or less both AoStH, SatAM, the Archie Comics, Fleetway Comics, tons of merch…the list goes on. Sonic 2 just feels so special to me, and the various beta info, and various hacks made to ‘complete’ the game to it’s closer original form make me so happy.
 
Sonic 1 got everything sarted, but I never found it very fun at all to play. Sonic 3 (& Knuckles) is the more complete and complicated game, but It’s too much to pick up and play for me, and I get bored of it sometimes. Sonic 2 I could play over and over on various hardware and be able to play enough to satisfy myself without getting bored or frustrated. It’s far from perfect, but goddamn do I love it anyway.
 

 
I never got into the Sonic series until late 2006, and before that I only ever played Sonic Advance 3 and Battle (Battle is one of my favorites) but I still hold a connection to classic Sonic from watching AoStH when I was younger.
 
My favorite modern games, in order, are SA2 (:B), SA (DX), and Shadow’s game, with more following depending on my mood.
 
(As a note, I always found Sonic Retro more informative when it came to Sonic game info than the other general Sonic wiki, love all the Romhacks too. I also enjoyed Sonic Cult when it came to prototype game info.)
 
tl;dr I am still a big Sonic nerd even if I haven’t bought a new game since Unleashed.

…I think Sonic 3D Blast is somewhat of a spiritual successor; personally, I’d be down with a flicky game that was 3D and yet still wrapped around (like the special stages in S3&K).
 
…in fact, for that matter, the “Flicky” concept would probably mesh well with a Super Mario Galaxy type of game.

…it’d be cool if they made a point of Omega being the first of Eggman’s robots to be powered by a Chaos Drive; bonus points if he was also the last due to his resistance.

In the comics writer Ian Flynn speculated that Omega’s power comes from the Power Cores featured in Sonic Heroes. The comics show he’s powered by a Chaos Drive.

“Flicky” needs more love, I say. I also kinda like how even though the levels are one screen long, the game still scrolls sideways when you move. Giving it a different feel from other single-screen games. (And makes grasping the “walk off the edge of the screen to come out the other side” concept a li’l easier. Some gamers forget you can do that in some old games.)

Thing is, I can agree to an extent, but it shouldn’t be a separate DLC at any rate unless bundled with other things as well.

It’d have to be one violent bird, but I don’t know. As by “Heroes” they stopped doing the “robotized” animal gag, and only recently started to bring it back again.
 
Speaking of which, anyone besides me think there should be a remake of the old arcade/Genesis game “Flicky?” Seriously, that game is just as good as all the more popular old arcade games. (And has a lot of levels too. I even beat all 50 of them before.)

All games should have a “boss rush” mode, I say. Boss battles are a lot of fun to me, and it annoys me in some games when you can’t replay boss battles without starting the whole game again.

DLC can be done right. I play a lot of games from Paradox Development Studios - the two I play most being Europa Universalis IV and Crusader Kings II. They’re both grand strategy games with a shitton of DLC.
 
Look at how much DLC CKII and EUIV have, ffs.
 
Funny thing is, if you look, CKII has a lot more DLC than EUIV - but so much of that is just aesthetic details like culturally appropriate armors for units and whatnot, and whenever they do release an expansion pack it’ll add in so many different elements and flavors that basically add in an entirely new game as opposed to just being a DLC to unlock different cultures and religions - more like the old school expansion packs as opposed to just modern day DLC.
 
EUIV, on the other hand, has a lot of “depth” DLC that actually just locks a lot of accessibility features behind paywalls. If you want to have an easier time mastering the combat mechanics, then buy the 20 dollar “Art of War” expansion. Same studio does these, too.
 
So I’m down for the first kind of DLC, but fuck the second kind of DLC.
 
Speaking of DLC, does anybody remember the DLC for 06? Hard Mode and Boss Rush?

Troo… Some companies kinda cheat gamers that way. (Especially EA who is notorious for that.)
 
Though, to be fair some DLC, like the ones for SSB & Mario Kart 8 are more like “optional game-expansions” rather then part of an “unfinished product.” (As those games were quite finished, and full complete games on their own.) And to be fair some DLC like the 200cc for MK8, and Amiibo expansion for the 3DS version of SSB were free.
 
In fact, “Sonic & Knuckles” is not a sequel to “Sonic 3.” It’s actually the second half of the game, or “Episode 2” basically. Due to time-constraints, and tech limitations (though sources are mixed why the game was split into 2 games) they had to release it as two separate games that could connect together to create one HUGE game.  
So “expansion packs” have been around even back then, and are nothing entirely new when you think about it.  
And to be fair, both games were pretty big games, so not complaining. You still got what you payed for.
 
I have nothing against DLC if it’s just a “cheap optional game expansion,” but as you said if it’s just to milk gamers, and is almost required like EA does, then it’s annoying.

Yeah, I heard all about that. In fact, the famed “Hidden Palace Zone” was reinstated into a remake of Sonic 2 recently. (Though, you don’t access it the way they originally intended. The developers said originally they wanted you to access it once you get all 7 chaos emeralds.)

Fun fact: back when Sonic 2 was going to have 18 Zones, Chemical Plant Zone would’ve been Zone 11. When a bunch of Zones were cut, Chemical Plant Zone was changed to the second Zone of the game. …Something tells me that they didn’t rebalance the difficulty when they moved it to a much earlier part of the game.
 
Also, there was one Zone called “Genocide City” which never got past the concept art phase. The development team didn’t originally know what “genocide” actually meant and just thought it sounded cool, but when they discovered what it meant, they changed the name to “Cyber City.” But again, Genocide/Cyber City never got past the concept art phase.

That’s hardly a fair assessment; most of the time (key word being “most”) DLC is completely optional.

To be fair, at least the game you bought was the game you got. They didn’t take out important parts of the game to nickle and dime you for DLC and they were generally finished products that didn’t need a ton of patches post-release.

Sonic 2 is probably my favorite Sonic game. I know most prefer “CD,” and “Sonic 3 & Knuckles,” (or at least when it comes to the 2D games) but I kinda prefer Sonic 2’s simplicity, pick-up-and-play-anytime feel, and old-school charm.  
(BTW, it’s being remade for the 3DS Eshop, and is coming out this month.)
 
$54.99? Boy, even back then games cost almost as much as they do nowadays.

In the original Dreamcast version they did, but in later versions of the game they just had the generic animals.

…something just occurred to me today. Ya know those animal bubbles that came outta the robots in Sonic Adventure?
 
And how Gamma and Beta each had a unique bird that was part of the bird family that Amy was trying to reunite?
 
Well, Foggy was also unique and was put in a bubble to mark the end of one of Gamma’s levels; later he fights other E-100s at the end of a level, and of course an animal would come outta them (at the moment, Gamma is the only one I remember having a boss at the end of a level).
 
…I had never thought to look, but did the other E-100s have unique models like Foggy and the bird family?
