I personally didn’t think her reformation was that rushed. Immediately after she turned over a new leaf, it was clear that she didn’t understand how friendship worked and had trouble adjusting to her new life free from her ideology. One of her first focus episodes was about her using a spell that brainwashed her friends since she didn’t see how wrong it was and shows that she still has her villainy biases from her past.

so it’s ok to compare?

My G4 criticisms aren’t based on G5 either. It just so happens that for years, fans always complained about G4. And then G4 was perfect when G5 came out despite flaws from it being carried over into G5 while improvements G5 made were ignored. Comparisons are inevitably going to be made, but it doesn’t change what I like and don’t like about G4. For example, I always liked reformed Starlight, never liked how her reformation was rushed, and Misty’s reformation being done far better than hers did nothing to change those views.

So, while I do compare the two a lot, my actual criticisms of G4 aren’t based on G5. I had a long, unconscious list of things I did and didn’t know I wanted a future generation to do differently, and G5 just happened to do a bunch of them. I would probably feel the same way about G4 even if there was no G5.

G4 good, g5 bad is already common yes but the opposite is otherwise rare. And I thought I wanted to see more of these guys. I take it back.

I noticed that you often criticize g4 compared to g5 so do you think the opposite it’s ok? someone criticizes the g5 comparing it to the g4 (something that many people already do but many g5 stans complains)

No you are not, specially because that was never really the show’s intention and in fact when they tried to implement complex archs as some sort of fan pandering in later seasons they were met with mixed results.

Clearly I’m the only one in this thread who doesn’t care about G4’s lack of longtime arcs or reliance on continuity.

I think G4 could have realized its full potential if immediately after Return of Harmony, they do a time skip, and the writers were given the time to do some long-term planning. It’s insane to me that Dragon Quest had nothing to say other than “dragons are assholes and Spike is better for having been raised by ponies”.

Haven’t watched it, but they shouldn’t have spent a season teasing their potential redemption, then went “nope” at the last second and given us redemption blueballs. That’s why I’m so big on planning. You want a thematic throughline because that’s what’s going to determine what a “satisfying ending” is. For example:

G4 could have been much better.
Honestly, I cannot get myself to like the G5 aesthetics. It’s…. noticeably different. Kind of reminds me of that MLP rival Filly Funtasia.

Obviously, I’m not going to delude myself to thinking G5 MLP is “Russian Propaganda” unlike a certain degenrate who makes incessant and futile demands to have it canceled It’ just doesn’t click the same. It also because I’ve grown out of the franchise as a whole that’s still being followed by a much declined fandom which is a distant shadow of what it once was. Hell, I barely even look at the G4 contents on this site anymore apart from a few.

Not giving a proper conclusion to Equestria Girls series was a major mistake. They could have at least given it a rushed send off. But no, it was just an abrut unceremonious cease of production for the series. It begs me to wonder what the showrunners had in the pipeline for the series before Hasbro decided to just pull the plug on it.
Also, could they not have extended the EqG series to G5 characters, since they clearly exist in the same universe?

One thing for sure, g4 is popular enough that despite only IDW doing g4 related comics that’s also not quite original stories and otherwise g4 being over in many ways, fans to this day amazingly still either willingly draw, discuss and make g4 videos. It has wider and harder impact compared to g4, both positive and negative. G5 is unfortunately even though I like it, very mid. There’s the concluded Discord arc in the comics and that’s like the only thing that’s controversial. Even then, it didn’t last long. G5 is sorta meh, not enough hate, not enough love, no impact.

It’s so funny seeing posts talking about how great G4 is compared to G5 and then come here to see G4 being ripped into pieces.

While I’m still surprised some consider this an unpopular opinion…

I think that this is a virtually flawless explanation about why reforming the Evil 3 just wouldn’t work. Mind the strong, offensive language if that kind of thing bothers you, but otherwise, this is incredible.

I think for the final fight in The Ending of the End, I found it a little odd Spike was fighting alongside the Mane Six.

I never understood why he was there fighting that Trio.

I always thought he would have been told to stay hidden along with Flurry Heart.
