The upvote button, which is no more informative or immune to abuse than the downvote one, is not being considered for removal. This strikes me as a double standard in which positive opinions are being treated as inherently more valuable than negative ones. Also, the removal of the downvote button eliminates the ability to read community opinion in a more detailed way without scrolling through 30 pages of comments, as images that are widely disliked but also widely appreciated will now appear the same at first glance as images that are simply popular.
 
I am beginning to agree with the sentiment that Derpibooru’s moderation is hard to reason with and seeks to stifle negative opinions, though I myself have never been the target of more than one or two warnings from them.

I have to completely disagree. Its basically limiting the speech of the people on the site. The reality of speech is that there will ALWAYS be people who will abuse it at every given turn. Its just how the internet works sadly. You have a hard time filtering the assholes. But the answer is never limiting what the more legitimate guys can say.
 
And it is going to be an especially large trigger these days. So this is just being unwise. There has to be another option, like having a meh meter or something.
 
Also… isn’t it a little back handed to link Arifproject’s character in a blog about getting rid of downvotes? I think it made him rather upset. It probably left the wrong impression on his part. Downote is still prsent in the hide function, yeah, but i did not know that until recently and was upset.

Then they could make a timer - 30/60/etc seconds between downvotes, or have it such that an account can only downvote a certain number of things, or IP ban people who do that. There are other solutions besides “remove downvotes”.

I don’t know on how filters can be abused, they’re more personalized. Up votes are moderated, but in terms of abuse, it’s not like downvoting where most of the time many people up vote rather than one person up voting numerous times. And commenting is still. An open feature, but they also have forums here for stuff that shouldn’t be in comments. And may people seem to follow that rule more because they aren’t be censored, they can still speak their opinons. Plus the closest they can do to comments in the sense is locking them down.

This is stupid. I have filtered out images with more downvotes than upvotes, and now that doesn’t work. By seeking to protect the feelings of artists, you’re just annoying some users of your site by making the site cumbersome for them. If an artist feels bad that they’re being downvoted en masse, that’s on them to fix.
 
If I saw a movie that I hated, I’d rate it poorly on IMDB and maybe review it. If the makers want to take a look at the ratings, fine. If not, also fine. It isn’t an attack on the maker of the movie, it’s a word of warning to others to go elsewhere. Same thing for images.

I like looking at controversial images sometimes too, but instead of searching via the score, I usually just search either for a high number of comments or for certain tags (“adventure in the comments”, “drama in the comments”, “op is trying to start shit”, etc). It’s pretty reliable in my experience.

I don’t approve. Even in cases like “haters” it’s still a thing I’d like to know about. I’m still interested in seeing how people feel about an image good or bad and I feel it’s fully understandable they wouldn’t want to go through the effort of writing a thoughtful comment every time. A downvote even out of hate for the theme I’ve chosen for my image is better than nothing at all. It’s still a more useful measurement. Now the comparing is even more inaccurate, especially considering we can’t see how many views an image has like on Deviantart.
 
Kinda missing the “0 downvotes approval” already, too.
 
Then there’s all the other issues caused by this, where controversial no-effort images are already overshadowing decent art. It’s a decent thought but it doesn’t seem to work well in practice.

The majority of users think this a stupid idea, so how about you swallow your massive egos and stop changing the mechanics of a huge website just to satisfy the agendas of a few idiots who can’t fathom the idea of someone downvoting a poorly drawn ms paint image of Rarity dating your sonic oc.

People can provide legit criticism. Even if it’s negative, they can easily go about it without resorting to insults and the like.
 
For example, I’ll use some of my work here.  
 
Like if someone had a negative critisimple to say, here are some.  
“I really don’t like the colors here. The green clashes too much with the rest of the coat.”
 
“The paws look off. They look way too close together”
 
 
That would be much more acceptable than this.  
“What the hell is this garbage. Into the trash it goes!”  
“Op didn’t even try.”
 
See the difference? They’re both negative, but one is acceptable. The other isnt.

If I found a picture I really liked, at least I could say “Good job bro, keep on going”. If a picture has few upvotes, the artist can ask about his/her quality. And we know some characters, fandoms and political/social stuff really pissed off a lot of people, So, I hope more constructive comments despite now there are will a lot of shitpost in the beggining of this decision.

Another reminder that this site is really just good for porn.

They were saying, that only asskissing(a.k.a. positive feedback) is encouraged.  
Removing downvotes is honestly a bad thing, cause of a number of reasons.
 

So how the fuck am I supposed to downvote-bomb artists I don’t like?
