During the three years of the original series 13.7% of his crew died; 73% of which was redshirts so yeah the trope does have a basis.

The whole, “hero sacrifices themselves” trope is way too fucking overdone and it’s time for people to retire the trope cause it’s like counting the number of redshirt deaths in star trek.

The writers/programmers of the game had to know what they were doing. And that either makes it better, or worse. I mean, he had a pretty clear love interest, which makes the act even more confusing.

I have to admit, though, the gay scene in the game make playing the thing almost worth it. I don’t know why it’s as funny as it is; I think it’s just the awkwardness of the suggestive song playing while Parappa passionately kisses his best friend unabashed.

I don’t really know how to explain it other then that there’s so much weirdness to the game, so much unexplained. I guess since it’s a kid’s game you’re just supposed to accept everything (how does a dog fall in love with a humanoid flower? Why does Parappa’s dad have a machine that doubles as a TV remote and a de-noodlizer? How did Parappa make burgers in the first level if all the food turned to noodles? Why the fuck is he in the army after one training session?), but still, it reeks of an inside joke.

I have mixed feelings on the franchise. I mean, if I look at the game non-critically, I enjoy it very much, but the more I think about it, the more I honestly can’t understand why people love it so much.

Parappa the rapper is one of those playstation games that at first was kind of seen as underrated but began to gain a cult (imagine a B movie).
