I say this as probably one of the furriest people on this board: A large amount of furries have an insane persecution complex. It wasn’t completely unfounded, say, ten years ago when internet culture was still barely a thing. Back then (from what I know) the attitude toward fetishes was a lot like it is in real life right now.  
Now, the persecution complex is a fire feeding itself. Most people on the internet don’t care what your fetish is but they hate furries because of the crazy bunch that start crying at the slightest instance of negativity towards them.

Weird is normal and normal is weird. Both are arbitrary social constructs that don’t actually describe anything and are not particularly helpful when applied to people.

Its not about theme, its about thesis. The nutshit insane furries tend to jump on the psychotically offended, how dare you say that I will kill you and your whole family, thing a bit easier than other fandoms, particularly if you are practicing some form of furry heterdoxy like suggesting that maybe furries have a bit of persecution complex, or that you don’t like all of their fetishes.

I wish this analogy was a over-exaggeration, but my analogy is actually pretty tame compared to the shit that used to go on. There was cum in elevators, people tearing up shit in hotel rooms, leaving diapers with shit on the floors, harassing people, oh and did I mention people waving guns and getting escorted by the cops of the premises?

I feel like I’ve said this somewhere before but I’ve got a theory that at some point when someone is a social outcast, they’re willing to accept other people’s craziness. And that’s a great thing in small doses. It’s just that when shit gets out of hand and people start accepting actual, real, dangerous craziness that it needs to stop.
 
This applies to more than furries but they’re the best example.

I’m not going to mention particular artists by name cause last time I mentioned furries by name I had about twenty of them ninja out of thin air, keep in mind occam’s shurikan when the answer is illusive never rule out ninjas, and proceed to head me with the “you’re just jealous” brick. Spoiler people that’s like saying someone is jealous of jackson pollock.
 
Rule number 1 of the internet: When talking about crappy furry artists don’t mention them by name cause chances are their fans will declare jihad on you, birth twenty offsprings and raise them as assassins with the sole goal in life is your head and getting their twenty fucking friends to do the same.

Most of the stuff I see nowadays is cartooney. The further you go back, the creepier it gets though. I’ve seen some stuff from the early 2000’s that’s a weird mishmash of realism and chuck jones.

Hardy har har, but in all seriousness I think one of the reasons why anthro gets such a bad name, besides the fact that for about a decade people were running about trying to get rid of their straight jackets before hilariously being caught by human sized butterfly nets by people in nice white jackets, is that the generic go to art style is shit your pants terrifying to non-fandom members.
 
Admit it if a race of aliens came to earth and were anthropomorphic dog people that 100% look like how furries draw anthro you’d be shitting your pants as well.

I’ll admit it. . . I partially like anthros. STOP! before someone goes out of their way to find cultist robes and start chanting “one of us! one of us!” what I mean by that is I looking back there is actually a good anthro artists. You know why? Cause they realize that it’s essentially cartoon characters and that having a 100% photorealistic is shit terrifying like something right out of silent hill.
 
The reason why I don’t like anthro art in general is that it would be like drawing mario realistic(not the movie mario), it would be shit levels terrifying to the point whenever you would try to go to sleep it would hit you over the head with the insomnia stick.
 
In other words I’ll slightly admit I like some anthro artists who draw their characters as cartoon characters cause they A)Keep in mind they’re drawing cartoon characters B)Aren’t trying to create something that would terrify the literal shit out of even Kristan Stewart even though she only has the single emotion of pouty.
 
Trying to draw 100% realistic cartoon animal people would work about as well as tim burton trying to make a alice in wonderland movi- oh wait.
