That was what I vented about earlier.
I should make it clear that I don’t mind that there are those who didn’t like the finale, I’m just fed up with the ones who whine nonstop about it, call out the writers or the ones who treat their opinions as objective fact.

I’m really sick of some people being entitled jerks about the finale and doing stupid stuff like insulting other fans or even harassing the writers because they don’t like how the ending went.I’m also pretty tired of being lumped in with them anytime I mention my own disappointment with the finale. It feels like there’s also people who think simply not liking the episode is somehow an insult in itself. It’s okay to be happy, it’s also okay to not be happy, what really matters is how you react to those feelings.
That was what I vented about earlier.

“garbage” and “shit” to describe a cartoon show on a website mostly populated by adults (regardless of the apparently PG-rated status of the default site and default filters)… is extremely inconsequential.
It evoked 29 comments to my five, in two hours. Basically every comment save for a few is caused by me casually dropping by to mention “garbage” in passing, and increasingly walking on eggshells in the four posts since then, trying to calmly counter strawmen and suck trickery thrown my way.
I’m allowed to “exaggerate” this as a “shitshow” because, even tho it didn’t garner hundreds of responses and various racial and sexual slur usage (or whatever must happen for something to qualify as being a shitshow)…
…The entire response applied to me has been mostly an overreaction to a very vanilla expression of disdain expressed by a member of the most controversial and passionate fanbases ever.

They addressed it in the season premiere. I’m assuming nothing changed regarding that. Starlight and maybe a few others like say, Sunburst and/or Trixie live there now.

I’m showing up in the middle and not looking to get into a conversation over this, but if you’re just here to vent and go, then sure, calling S8&9 garbage is your perogative. But if you want to actually get into a discussion over it, calling the whole last 2 seasons garbage is going to put the majority of posters on the defensive right off, since generally people are here to rant about specific plotlines or characters, not the whole property.
Anyway…
I am annoyed that Twilight’s castle wasn’t addressed. “Harmony” seems to have migrated/been passed on to the student six and the treehouse, but the place is filled with so much history (not to mention Twilight’s treebrary memory chandelier) that it should have been turned into a museum or something. Headcanon it is, I guess.

I’d be willing to actually have it specifically be based around the idea of foreign exchange of culture for its own sake, not just “spreading” “friendship”.
But also, again, the whole “you have to say what you’d do differently in order for your expression of dislike to be valid” is an invalid argument for what is literally called a Venting thread for someone making an aside comment who hardly posts on here.
The venting from what I’ve seen in this most recent sample is people basically venting about venting.

I’m not sure if I should bother responding to all the people guilty of essentially strawmanning my very mild aside that “the show had been garbage in Seasons 8 and 9”. Something along the lines of not answering a fool according to their folly.
This post, however, I not only agree with, but I really think that you Background Ponies should rise up and become registered users. I’m saying this even if it is a bit late since the show is over now.
This show evokes passionate responses because of how much it surprised people with how much passion and hard work went into it to make it very different than what people expected from the name My Little Pony.
For me, “hating” the show for two years doesn’t invalidate this.
For me personally, the School arc is functionally a tacked-on corporate fanfiction created by Haber, Vogel, and Dubuc and has no effect on the previous seven seasons. This isn’t Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones, where the last season is required to exist to resolve a serial, linear plotline that left off with a cliffhanger in the previous season.
So in that regard I’m pretty chill about this. People criticizing me for “watching a show” I “now hate” fail to realize that 52 episodes spread out over roughly nineteen months isn’t a big investment for me. Even with it being my most recent memories of MLP in terms of watching episodes for the first time… it doesn’t take away from the first several years of good. This isn’t some moron hatewatching the show for six seasons after AliTwi happened in Season 3 and bringing it up everywhere.

It’s a bit harder than just “Good. Bad. Don’t care.” though. For a lot of people this show means a lot to them. It can be hard to watch something you care about go in a direction you don’t like, or to feel like it isn’t living up to it’s potential. I wish the Fandom could go back to simpler and more peaceful times, when the biggest problem was the people from outside who frowned at their tastes, and not times when accusations of trying to control opinions and censorship from the very fans of the show became more frequent.

What I mean is that the posts that get deleted are more often than not written by people who aren’t engaging in good faith criticism. They’re being dicks. Hostile, accusatory, patronizing. You can find so much criticism on this site, on massively active threads, that isn’t deleted. So criticism itself isn’t the only factor.

Sorry bro, you may have largely-correctly chastised someone who was in the wrong @Hollowfox Jaeger , but if your use of the term “criticism” in quotations is meant to indicate sarcasm quotes in regard to what I said about the past two years of MLP… well, I never claimed it to be criticism.

I’m under no obligation to lay out some nice lovely essay justifying my grievances at the past two seasons.
I didn’t even post here just to say “the finale is shit”, or “x seasons are shit” with no context, even tho this thread should be designated to allow that with no additional explanation, as boring as that would be (which is why I wouldn’t do it).
Mentioning that I’ve hated the past two seasons is just a small part of that comment I made. Again, I’m under no obligation to explain myself right away. Tho ideally I will eventually articulate my thoughts.
My experiences here have indicated that anything I say here on this particular community will largely fall on deaf ears, given the rapid defensive response I’m getting. Particularly a forum moderator who immediately swoops in to justify the “janny” stereotype of forum moderators, particulary forum moderators in fandom communities.

That’s the crap that creates such a toxic atmosphere that inevitably made me dread the “discussion threads” on any of these MLP fandom sites. Because somehow saying “I (don’t) like it” is somehow way to hard.
