Well at least they tried introducing a Crystal Pony character that actually feels relevant. Unfortunately I can’t say the same about the show itself.

I really, really do not care about Hope and don’t think Sombra’s backstory really needed a character like her.

According to twitter, the next few pages after the first three show where Hope has been for the last 1000 years.

Seems pretty obvious that the second issue is going to be the one to answer all those questions about Hope, it already spent three pages recapping her history.

Hope told Lightning Dust she had one more stop to make. It was to show there was one more character she was going to visit before facing the mane 6. They kept who it was a secret until later and it’s possible we will see her meet with Chrysalis in a flashback.

For all I know, Chrysalis may have been the one recruiting Hope’s minions and telling them a different version of Hope’s plan just to screw with her, because Changelings are eeeevil like that.
 
I can also see Chrysalis altering Hope’s plan to suit her own needs, maybe even planting some Changelings among the Crystal ponies to get her free as soon everyone keep their attention focused on Hope and Sombra.
 
Hell, I can also see Chrysalis imitating Hope to control Sombra’s actions and all that.

How Hope even found them. What bothers me I saw how she visited everyone… except Chrysalis?? Was changeling presence in FlimFlam cart supposed to be an unexpected plot twist so we didn’t see it or what.

I’m still expecting a moment where each person brings back their demands for helping, which are more than just “I want to take out the Mane 6” since they’ve escalated to downright terrorism. Maybe Hope told Chryssi that her hive would be able to live alongside the umbrums? Flim, Flam and Iron Will could had been offered a business opportunity, while Lightning Dust… uh…. money?

Was it shown in the comic HOW did hope recruit Chrysalis? In the version I saw it seems like that part was skipped which is a bit sad…

I’m hoping we get some explanations this issue. Like does the rest of Hope’s crew know they are working alongside Chrysalis, and does any of them know or care about Sombra?

That is what they should have done. Instead they wasted pages on a recap that they could have dedicated to the story.

I figured the would have done the traditional *“refer to issue blah blah” commonly used in the old Archie Sonic comics.

It’s probably a courtesy to those who need a refresher/those who didn’t read the issue.

I wonder why. It’s pretty obvious that the source material is the Fiendship. I hope it isn’t padding.

So apparently the next issue will spend the first few pages recapping Sombra’s Fiendship.

Excerpts from the private Journal of Queen Chrysalis reveal the secret technique of changeling warfare: dumb luck.
 
“Boy I am sure glad those pegasii all retreated suddenly for no reason at all. This will make draining their love much easier.”
 
“I figured it would be hard to get back into Trot a second time, but when they saw me approach the gate undisguised and angrily shouting how I would kill them all, they opened up and invited me and my army in! I though I would have to disguise myself but apparently not! This must be my lucky day, I sure hope nothing unlucky happens to ruin it like a powerful alicorn I didn’t know about showing up to kill me.”
 
“So I met Celestia the other day. She blew a bunch of holes in me and my army but it’s ok, she was kind enough to provide us with this awesome new home! It’s a volcano! I must say Celesitia showing up out of nowhere and blasting me was the luckiest thing to ever happen to us changelings.”
 
“A dragon came by and ruined our new home! I’m lucky he inexplicably cramped up and fell into the lava before he could hurt us. I’m sure glad we’re so lucky and things always work out for us. I mean, could you imagine what it would be like if I had to activly defend myself by, I dunno, tricking the dragon and nailing him while he’s distracted? Too much effort for dumb old me.”

I couldn’t tell because the “1000 years of narratively convenient peace” is something I’ve seen serious discussions about. We don’t know a whole lot about that time.

Actually her siege on Trot was NOT 1000 years ago, it was later, and after that she spent a few hundred years in that volcano before escaping to parts unknown.

Yeah, there’s that too. And remember that she was SURPRISED that Shining Armor’s love for Cadance powered her up enough to defeat Celestia. She thought she was going to LOSE the beam-o-war.

It still makes her look even more stupid. Honestly one of the worse things to come out of Fiendship series. Along with that halfassed “origin”.
