The way I see it: alternate = a temporary, “what if” look (assuming the char’s yours, at least mostly).

redesign = a permanent new look OR the way you imagine some other char to look. Like, a different alternate universe version of Luna, for ex.

What’s the difference between alternate design and redesign?

In my mind they are somewhat distinct by the shapes of the fixtures and supporting hardware. These are just my mental imageries, not official use of terminology:

I envision “lamp”s to be round or faceted glass and mildly old-timey or a modern spin on the same design goals. I envision “posts” to be shorter, around one story tall, compared to poles, which might be more like 2 stories tall. And, a lightpost would be tall and have non-lanp-like fixtures, whether they’re modern downward-facing hemispherical lights or a grid of projecting lights as for a stadium. In a lightpole I still envision a more modern version yet still with light(s) on top of a shorter pole, without an overarching bar like a streetlight.

Of course, these impressions are not codified into tag definitions, at present.

Is there any difference between streetlight and street lamp? The images don’t seem to make any distinction.

I think the idea was that rainbow power was going to be a little more broad at first, covering stuff like the mane six’s rainbow along with the power up, but I don’t think that distinction stuck.

I know I had it in my head at one point that rainbow power-ified should be used for characters aside from the mane six getting the rainbow power, I know I brought that up a long time ago, but I don’t know that stuck either.

As the person who started using those tags, I would suggest no since transfeminine and transmasculine are not the same as trans woman/man (respectively). There’s a few instances in those tags where a character is labeled as transfeminine/transmasculine and nonbinary, for example.

In cases where a character is stated to be both transmasculine/feminine and a trans man/woman or it is unclear/unsaid, both tags can be applied.

Should transfeminine and transmasculine be merged with trans female and trans male?

I could have sworn there was only one… I took me a long time to notice Dash.

It should be only solo focus, because there are 2 characters in this image.

speaking of solo tags, I never got a response from anyone on how to tag >>3315084 (explicit) regarding solo/solo female/solo focus/duo

In seriousness, I’ve just kept it around as a placeholder spoiler tag. Going by past specials, I guess something like spoiler:the blockywockys would also be fine. Perhaps S02S01 for “S2 Special”?

Yes. “solo focus” is excluded from “solo”, “duo focus” excluded from “duo”, etc.

It might be that Derpibooru treats “focus” tags differently from some other sites, as the cause of the mis-tagging…

I used to think it came from people not realizing the “[character’s sex] focus” tags imply “solo focus” rather than being valid also for groups of the same sex, but there are plenty of cases where those tags were not used at all.

The description for solo focus says:

Does that mean all these images are incorrectly tagged and the solo focus tag can be removed from them? (Excluding, of course, images that have multiple characters and are simply incorrectly tagged solo.)
