Alula and Princess Erroria are actually not the same filly. The former name refers to the yellow pegasus filly, the latter only to the yellow alicorn filly. Some fics have them being the same filly who has two different identities, but they are still not the same filly officially.
I see tagger getting that wrong here on Derpibooru all the time, too.

This is false. The Wiki frequently makes use of pony names that are voted on here (or at least in accordance with common character tags). Not in every single case, but often. Reddit may be the Wiki’s “ultimate decider”, but names nominated on Reddit commonly come right from here.

I’m all for aliasing the names. We’ve done the same with some ponies who have a toy name that’s different from their name in the show and for characters we gave names to but then eventually got official canon names.

What I see is one post and then one guy adding one wiki name to three images.
On a related note: @LuckClover707, it’s not generally a good idea to add names for unnamed characters without going through the approval process first.

It’s a rule there. Set in stone. Make that set in concrete.
The main problem is that the MLP:FiM Wiki has copied the Wikipedia set of rules (mostly to have a set of rules in the first place). This has been agreed upon in a very early phase of the fandom when nobody knew what that’d lead to. These rules, however, rule out any and all fan sites as reliable sources for anything. Including pony names. (Anyone remember the 3rd blind bag wave when someone at Hasbro had decided to give Lyra the name “Heartstrings” which became her only allowed name at the Wiki? AFAIR, quite a number of bronies were perma-banned from editing the Wiki because they weren’t willing to let go of the name “Lyra”. It was the Wiki where the shitstorm started that eventually reached Hasbro and had them rename her “Lyra Heartstrings”.)
So no, they can’t use fan sites as sources for pony names. Seriously, use any fan name that’s been “Jossed” by Hasbro (even though it’s being used pretty much everywhere else in the fandom) on the Wiki, and you might get perma-banned on the spot upon first strike. These names don’t exist because you cannot prove they exist because “reliable sources” (including DHX, Hasbro, Enterplay) don’t use them.
Okay, now they’d like to have “placeholder names” for background ponies. But they have to get them from somewhere. Preferably hold polls to decide for them. The Wiki itself can’t hold polls. So they have to go somewhere that isn’t a dedicated fan site (remember, fan sites are a huge no-no as sources) where they can hold polls.
And they’ve picked Reddit as that “somewhere”. Reddit itself isn’t a fan site. And they steer clear of dedicated brony subreddits because these are fan sites again.
In order to have one coordinated way of getting “placeholder names”, they’ve allowed their standard procedure on Reddit — and only their standard procedure on Reddit — as a “reliable source” for such names.
Derpibooru, on the other hand, is a fan site all right. I haven’t seen any name tags here getting changed because of a decision the Wiki team made, but Derpibooru can just assign two name tags to a pony/creature if necessary and then everyone can name them however they prefer.

We definitely need a better name than “Walter White”, my suggestion for that is Crystalline Structure. And for “Bloomaloo”, I am thinking of Creamy Nougat. That’s not a very good name, but maybe someone else can think of a better one.
