Alright, I’m just gonna come clean here: no matter how many times you guys explain to me why jerks and bullies are more interesting than kindhearted folks, I can’t, I repeat, CAN’T turn my creations evil. It just isn’t in my heart to do so, you know? Especially since my friends and family love me as well. So maybe just accept that not everyone is cut out for world-building.

Huh, guess this could’ve gone in the Vent thread instead…oh well.

…so yeah, my ADHD won’t let me make a consistent universe about my characters. One minute they’re about to fight some super tough monster, the second they’re just enjoying a day at school.

Part 3: When I developed Luca, I also had the brainstorm to create a genderbent version of himself from another dimension, inspired by episodes of “The Loud House” and “SheZow!”, a female half-kitsune named Lisa. Aside from being a girl, the other differences are the color of her hair/eyes, glasses, and instead of fire, she would wield ice.

Then I brainstormed a THIRD version named Leon, from an alternate alternate dimension, as an “evil twin” of sorts (inspired by Dark Pit from “Kid Icarus: Uprising”), to round out the trio by giving him lightning powers to fulfill the “fire/ice/lightning” trope.

Eventually I lost interest in these two, and after another trip to TV Tropes (something which I’ve tried to avoid doing because that site hates me and everything I enjoy), I learned about tanuki vs. kitsune, so I decided to create a half-tanuki named Koharu, a Japanese girl. (I forget what “Koharu” means, I found it on a Japanese baby list online) Despite the common knowledge that tanuki and kitsunes are basically enemies (like Tom Nook and Redd), I decided to make them best friends. She gets ice powers too.

Part 2: A year later, the Disney/Pixar film “Turning Red” hit Disney+ after skipping a theatrical release (thanks to the COVID variant), and somehow the movie gave me a sudden interest in Asian culture, although my interest was primarily Japanese despite the main character being Chinese. It helps that the movie was set in 2002, and Mei and I were both 13 that year.

At some point between then and now, I came up with a “Turning Red sona” after seeing peoples’ drawings online, and rather than a red panda, I was inspired by a fic where Mei met a girl from Tokyo who can turn into a tanuki similar to Mei’s red panda power, and made up a backstory of my sona Luca’s family moving to Toronto, and he attends the same school as her at the beginning of the following year (taking place after the movie, of course).

In that version, my character would get his stepdad and stepsister’s gift of turning into a different-colored kitsune, but with three tails instead of nine, and no other magic powers to keep him grounded in reality. However, after people complained that he shouldn’t get the gift since he’s not blood-related, I scrapped it all. Also I ended up falling in love with the multiple-tail thing, especially since kitsunes aren’t common in Western media (there was a non-speaking kitsune in Hotel Transylvania 3 and 4, not sure why she was made and they shove her in the background, would’ve increased an interest in Asian culture like me, also she was why I picked the kitsune for my character).

I even once had a backstory where his great-great-great grandfather was a powerful kitsune spirit, but he fell in love with a human woman and used up all his magic to become mortal and be with her (since kitsunes could live practically forever and he didn’t want to be alone), so 150 years later we have Luca. Then at some point I gave him fire powers, with the DNA saying that each descendant can only get one type of power instead of all of them. He would still be Black, because it’s similar to some of the “Alice’s Wonderland Bakery” descendants being different races, like Hattie and his dad being Japanese while Princess Rose and her mom being Hispanic.

But I got confused and scrapped a backstory entirely, Luca’s just a fire-wielding kitsune who’s around for whatever I need in my drawings. And he may either be a teenager or young adult, I haven’t picked an age yet. I also look up some Asian-inspired contemporary music to serve as his theme.

Next part will be about the girl on the left, Koharu.

Part 1: So…you know how Nintendo’s consoles let you make Miis? Well, way back then I used to have my Mii look (almost) exactly like me.

But in 2021, I had a realization: what if I defeated someone online in a game and they saw me IRL and were like “You beat me in a game” and could threaten me physically. Now granted that all sounds like hogwash, but people have done crazy crap like attempting to break into Area 51 Naruto-style, so I came up with an idea: create a Mii that looks NOTHING like me. Which includes changing the skin, hair and eye color. I even gave him a new name: Luca. No, it’s not based on the Pixar character that debuted that year, it was from an online generator.
