Yeah, that might be a problem…

Hey Joey, so I’d like to make a submission with two characters. But the problem is the two characters I’d like to submit have a large size difference. That being one is a Sphinx and the other is a full sized poner. Is that a problem, or should I just stick to the one regular sized pony? Or the one Sphinx?

Quality control is going to be the same level as it has been in previous years - submissions that appear to be created to intentionally detract from the finished image will be rejected, as will ones that don’t meet the guidelines/rules. We’re not going to reject someone because their art skills are lacking. There’s always been a few submissions that were not of stellar quality in previous collabs, but those are always a minority, and they’re hardly noticeable overall.
 
After all, I would never mean to imply that someone isn’t part of this community because they’re not artistically skilled. We do have skilled volunteers to help those people, but if they’d rather draw their own image, that’s accepted too, and always has been. After all, you gotta be bad at drawing before you can get good at drawing.

Didn’t expect this till thanksgivin.
 
If this follows from last years growth, then it may be 1400+ OCs. Looking forward to this as always.

So we can see less of the OCs, which means they can look worse. But this punishes all the ones that put effort into looking good.
 
Nah no nope. I was trying to imply you’d get a wave of other really bad submissions from me and my friends, but no. I’m bailing out of this as an artist. This year isn’t worth any effort if it’s going to be like this.  
The last ones were good, where people worked hard to draw their OCs and get them in, for many people it was a reason to create an artist tag for themselves. I loved that! Now though, it’s nothing but an excuse to get artists to give you free art over on the requests thread, or apparantly submit your own low effort recolors. Really sad to see it go this way. But I’ll always be happy I got to be part of the earlier ones.
 
Maybe two collabs are needed? One with standards and one without. I don’t want to put in the effort if the plan is to cover that up with so many OCs they all look as bad as each other.

More OCs patricipating = larger image = badly drawn ones occupy less of the image = don’t need as stringent quality control.

10 images taken before disaster. With so many entries coming in, I assumed quality control would be higher than last year, not lower. But in a sense, I feel a lot more relaxed knowing there’s no way any of my submissions will get rejected. I’ll let my server know too.

It’s a yes/no decision based on the combo of both the OC and artist. I’m not gonna say that one is fine but the other is not.

That would be accepted, yes, but there’s certainly room and time for improvement too.

Technically yes, but if there’s at least decent effort and the base isn’t a stolen trace of someone’s art without permission, I’d look the other way.

All past collabs have had “fourth wall” camera, not “ceiling” camera.

I’m interested in applying for a flying spot this year, but I want to know if this style of pose would be acceptable. Flying past with back to the camera and looking ‘up’ at it.

Do bases count as violation of rule 5 i.e. “no pony generator or puppet art”?

I wonder if it’s gonna be even bigger than the last year. Statistically, it should be. But since G4 has ended, I’m not sure anymore.
 
So I have got a question. If I am drawing a group picture, can it consist of 5-10 ponies? A really large one. What would be the limit?

I don’t have any solid guidelines to offer. I usually just rank the submissions based on what I feel would look best, and approve as many as necessary until I have enough. Generally though, what I look for:
 
Art style - clean, smoothly lined, not too overly detailed, show accurate proportions
 
OC Design - easy and pleasant on the eyes, color and design doesn’t stand out heavily, believable canon-esque appearance
 
Basically, I try to arrange the entire collab so that no one character stands out too much (Unless otherwise desired). Since flying OCs are much more visible, I want them to not be overly stand-out-ish beyond that. The more the OC/art style draws attention to itself, the less likely it’ll be to get a yes.
 
That’s not to say that the criteria is overly harsh. It’s all about balance. You can also look at the previous collabs to get an idea of what I accept.

For the characters flying, what are you looking for in the quality control? This will aid in my selection of an artist.

I dunno, the way I read it says to me you can only have 2 of your own made / personally owned OCs. It doesnt apply to drawings of say 6 ocs, each with there own individual owner.
 
Perhaps the rule could be made clearer if needed, but like joey showed you, a drawing/ collab can have any number of characters featured. They just need to belong to others and not all yours.

11) If you own multiple OCs, you may submit up to two of them, but they have to be together in a single image file. Please do not submit more than two OCs, or two separate images of “solo” OCs. This rule applies to who owns the OC, not necessary who drew it.  
This rule. Leads me to believe that an image should be kept to two OCs only (even though the group would be three different people’s OCs all in one image.)

Where does it say that? The rule is no more than two ponies that belong to you, but there is no limit to how many OCs can be in a single image overall. As demonstrated by this massive group:

I know that the submission guidelines says no more than two ponies in an image, but would it be possible to make an exception for a third? (All three in the same image. I have a compact idea for it.) A friend’s birthday is coming up and I wanted to surprise them by adding them into our submission for the collab.
