This is a what-if idea that I had recently: What if Celestia never decided to have Discord be reformed, and therefore he would remain in stone and the events of Keep Calm and Flutter On would never happen? How would this affect the rest of the series?

Presumably it would have affected quite a bit. The very next episode he was involved with after his reformation, after all, was the season 4 premiere, where we learn that he (long before he was turned to stone) planted plunderseeds to steal the Tree of Harmony’s magic and capture the princesses. The mane six still might have solved the issue without him, but he did help point them in the right direction, so there’s that. Also, without him around, who knows who Celestia would have sent after Tirek in his place? Perhaps it would have ended sooner that way, or maybe Tirek would have won. Either way, things would have changed dramatically.

First, the Discord episodes wouldn’t have happened, which would deprive us of Tree Hugger (truly the greatest loss of them all) and a great episode.
 
However, the consequences of his absence would much more far-reaching: everything after Season 4 would be radically different.
 
If Discord wasn’t around to join Tirek, to begin with, Tirek might have been caught sooner before he could get to the princesses, and the library’s destruction would never have happened.
 
This would mean that the castle, and by consequence the map episodes, wouldn’t exist:
 
So, Gilda would never have been redeemed, and because of that, Gabby would never have gotten her fixation with cutie marks.
 
Starlight would still be a unknown cult leader in Ourtown and wouldn’t have befriended Trixie.
 
And finally, with no Trixie, Discord or Starlight to foil her plans, Chrysalis would conquer Equestria.
 
The only good thing that could come out of this is the fact that The Hooffields & McColts wouldn’t happen either.

I can’t think of all the different things that it would affect, but it sounds like it would be an improvement to me :3

Though not having Starlight Glimmer or Gabby the Griffon in the show does make it a bit of a harder choice. A lot of those points seem to be about how the destruction of Twilight’s old home was a good thing.

Well, if it would rid us of Discord I could make that choice. It would be fun to see how seasons 4, 5, and 6 turned out different.
 
And without Starlight Glimmer around, it would be fun to see what else people claimed “ruined the show/season 6” I like to look on the bright side of things :D  
 
I’m able to edit a forum post 4 days after the fact, is that normal? Also, Crystal Neighybánya is right, if everything in Season 4 and onwards changes/becomes different, wouldn’t Queen Chrysalis’s return or attack strategy also have turned out differently?
 
Not that we ever got to see it in action or anything, but I guess the changelings would have to take over or conquer Golden Oaks Library if that never got destroyed X3

I was thinking this kinda thing would result from such. Very interesting to imagine how certain events might change based on one simple occurrence.

If everything after Season 4 is butterflied away, wouldn’t the S6 finale be butterflied away as well?

Well, if everything after S4 was completely different, that means whatever circumstances that allowed her to be as successful as she was in the S6 finale would have been butterflied away.

I believe he was overexaggerating how much would have been affected by not having Discord be reformed (notice how it doesn’t seem to effect the CMC getting their cutie marks, DT and SS being reformed, Flurry Heart’s birth, or Thorax’s defection). If Starlight didn’t go through with her supposed grand plan to take over Equestria and succeed by the time Chrysalis came up with her revenge plan; and if was to simply ambush, capture, and replace everypony when their guards were dropped, the only possible changes would be the times and locations of said ambushings.

I wasn’t. as i said, i am working on a scenario with as little change as possible. In the maximum-change scenario, nothing after Season 3 would have happened as it happened. the things you mentioned weren’t directly related to Discord or the map so i didn’t mention them. although not having Starlight around might have affected The Crystalling too…
 
Besides, even if Thorax defected (which would probably happen), he wouldn’t be able to defeat Chrysalis on his own.

Ah, thanks for clarifying.
 
The only ways I see Chrysalis coming up with a radically different game plan would be if Discord’s absence significantly affected her and her hive in some way before she carried out her attempted take over, another villain managing to take over before she does, or by some chance all of Equestria becoming laminated in anti-changeling magic.
 
Yeah, Thorax vs. Chrysalis definitely would be a textbook curb stomp battle.

Arguably, if Discord hadn’t been reformed, Magical Mystery Cure would never have happened, as Celestia intentionally had the EoH moved to Golden Oaks under the guise of “a precaution against Discord”.
 
…and having just said that, I assume a lot of people now despise Discord more than ever.
