Erm, him being an antagonist was entirely based in him being a selfish brat.

Yeah, it certainly does go both ways. It seems like a war of safe moves vs more extreme ones. The execs want it safe and marketable, while the artists want to do whatever they want. Sometimes it means really awesome ideas get stomped on, sometimes it means really terrible ideas get stomped on :D

Like other guys have said, it probably would have worked really well in a spinoff series or a reboot or even a distant sequel. Honestly I think it would be better to end a series and begin a spinoff rather than just hand it over to a new cast :D

And that was it, it really worked with him being an antagonist since that’s his character and he was supposed to be like that since he was evil. When they reformed him though, it’s like they wanted to change his personality too but they didn’t want to stray away from his selfish narcissistic personality so they were having a hard time deciding and instead opted him to be an obnoxious manchild as compared to simply having a massive ego like say Trixie.

When some line clearly had to be drawn so both the crew and executives can agree on something without having to go against each other with what ideas they had. Though like you said, the silver lining is that some really terrible ideas were thrown out and never used.

An unpleasant shitlord who’s a villain is appropriate. An unpleasant shitlord who’s supposed to be a protagonist is just annoying. There’s also the fact that as a villain he was smart and capable, yet as a protagonist his intelligence is subpar at best.
 
I would be willing to forgive, I mean I like antiheroes like Trixie and Starlight, but he’s very rarely even contrite.
 
The big difference for me between him and Trixie is Trixie can’t back it up. Therefore it’s like the skinny nerd challenging you to a fight, it’s funny and endearing because it’s rooted in insecurity and desire for validation. Discord is the swaggering jock, he’s supremely powerful and so swinging his dick around makes him a bully.

And no, he isn’t really apologetic at all, and often he does get friendship quite wrong - but he does try (sometimes) and it’s generally amusing.

You may also be thinking that if Celestia is god, then that must mean Twilight is Jesus Christ? That would be the obvious conclusion, right? Well, you would be wrong because Celestia deliberately designed it to be appear that way because she wanted you to think deeper about what it means to be “right”. Jesus does not actually appear many times in the show, but “she” does appear very early on. In fact, the sixth episode to be precise. “She” presents herself as a mere traveling performance pony that wants to help others find excitement and wonder in and help ponies develop their own personal spirits. Yet, Twilight and her friends ostracize and attempt to shun her merely because she was different. Just how to the Romans, Jesus Christ was seen as a trouble maker to them, so was “she”. There are many other examples of her being the reincarnation of Jesus. Such as how “she” was a poor traveling pony that made ends meet by herself. Or how she was extremely talented at her hobby. Or how “she” had a small group of fans who worshiped “her” despite “her” being unpopular with society. And when the village comes to denounce her presence, Celestia sends a monster to punish them for their wrong doing. But I think the silver bullet here is how she was born from Mary, or also known as “Lauren Faust”, the mother of My Little Pony, and the mother of “her”. You see, Jesus Christ was born abnormally from a normal human, and Lauren so did create “her” different from all other ponies. The differences are that “she” has a large horn, one shiny, and bigger hooves then other mares. These design changes have inherent meaning to themselves, but really Lauren made these design changes deliberately to show you how there was something “different” about “her”. “She” is the only unique mare model created in the entire show. So you might still be wondering; why did Lauren make such a seemingly small character to be Jesus Christ?
