I kinda lost interest somewhere around season 4 before I came back

Mostly because of other stuff catching my attention at the time

I never lost interest in the show but there were a few watershed moments that changed my viewing relationship with it.

Bats!/Flight to the Finish both made me realize that the show was never really going to push its notions or challenge its convictions. Morally grey was out of the question

The Cutie Re-mark (and to a lesser extent School Raze) made me aware that any plot beat or thematic moral was going to browbeat any character motivation or development, that the characters could and would be forced to act a certain way for the sake if the story or moral.

I never lost interest in the show. Heck it never even waned really, outside of some episode sounding less interesting to me than others. I started watching around the week episode 5 was going to air and I watched every single one since then. I rarely lose complete interest in a show once I am invested. Sure I might get lazy and wait for a season to end to watch it all at once but I always keep up with what is going on in other ways.
Once I’m invested a show has to really screw up pretty badly for me to stop watching completely.
That’s remarkably similar to my experience as well. I first became curious and started watching the show (as memory serves) a mere day or two after “Suited for Success” first aired, and pretty much never stopped enjoying it after that. And in the span of 9 seasons, I don’t think there was more than maybe three or four episodes that I didn’t watch the day of their official release.

Like you, it really takes a lot to make me give up on something when I’ve invested in it. And I can safely say this show never got close to anything that would do that.

Bats! is notorious for it’s bad writing and character development, it is the textbook example of seeking a goal (in this case, “Fluttershy as a bat”) and coming up with a lazy, nonsensical plot to get to that point no matter what. It played off the rest of the mane 6 acting like antagonists, with the messaging driven up to eleven with a song to shove the point down our throats that we’re supposed to pick Fluttershy’s side no matter how fucking stupid she is being.

It’s a pattern that becomes more prevalent as the seasons go.

Yeah, I know what’s wrong with Bats. Just don’t quite see how it leads to

Well OK, maybe the last bit. Not sure how Flight to the FInish fits in either.

Scootaloo is has a disability which in no way affects her being able to live a completely normal life but does stop her from living up to the potential she was born with while Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom don’t even possess that ability. Just cause all three races live in Harmony doesn’t mean different life experiences and expectations aren’t placed on ponies and that those idea can still cause conflict. There is a massive world building potential here to really dive into matters that goes well and above any direct analogues in the real world yet allegorically resonate and it’s a missed opportunity

I’m not quite sure what you mean here - they did have Scootaloo faced with her inadequacy as a pegasus here, and it’s touched on again in the Washouts. What more would you have done with it?

I suppose what I mean is they did the standard “bully picks on disabled kid, kid learns it’s not what you cant do, but what you do do the defines you” plot when the world and environment lend itself to so much more in terms of story and characters

I’ll be honest, I’m still going to bicycling ignore the implication that Scootaloo will never fly. Where for my personal canon, and me fanfiction I right that deals with Scootaloo being an adult… I will have her flying.

See I really don’t like the “This story is formulaic/be done before/cliche” argument when it comes to the episode being bad. This show is written for a demographic that has not seen these things a million times unlike a lot of the older parts of the community. I really don’t think that it is fair to use that as a measure to judge the show.

I think a better way to do it would be in how well they did that plot rather than the fact that it hasn’t been done a lot. In that way I think Flight to the Finish did it pretty well.

@EotD
As you point out, though, Scootaloo’s disability is the lack of something neither her friends or the viewers have, so dwelling on it too much runs the risk of being… huh, I’m not sure what the word is, but I know it’s a problem.

And the cultural aspect is downplayed by the fact that she lives in a ground town, not Cloudsdale or somewhere.

Sometimes, I am not sure if those people who consider themselfs “very fans of the show” rewatch random episodes again in the TV. I have seen many who watch it as a compromise, not because they like it. The say they “are part of the ride”, but do they ever plan to do the same ride again?

Its like me with other cartoons, like Ed, Edd & Eddy, The Simpsons or Spongebob, where I have seen the same old episodes over and over again, I dont think I will ever gonna want to see a MLP episode on tv ever again.

It’s not that they went with a tried and true story idea, its that they went with it when the world offer so much more and a unique outlook than any other show/platform has

@Latecomer
But that the whole thing, she lives in Ponyville, a city on the ground, run by ponies without wings and designed for ponies without wings. In other words, in Ponyville her disability isn’t a disability it in no way affects the quality of life she has on a practical level. But you still have her not living up to her species potential coming to head with the fact she doesn’t need it for a pragmatic POV. There is a conflict and story potential there that goes untapped
