The irony is that’s exactly why: realistic violence is a no-no, but magic lasers and the censors don’t bat an eye.

You’d think they’d be more worried kids shooting lasers and ramming each other through mountains more than a relatively tame punch to the face.

Cartoon censors are totally bananas. Torture, child soldiers, good guys killing people and this epicness are totally fine, but Twilight punching Tirek in the face gets a hard nope XD

It must be like a liability thing. A kid pointing her forehead at another kid and yelling “Bzzzzzzzap!” isn’t going to bring on the same heat as a kid punching her friend in the face because Twilight did it :P

Replicable actions. Kids can punch one another with very little need for stuff they dont already have. Laser vision or bulldozing mountain are exceptionally implausible for a kid to accurately recreate

I mean, take Applejack - the original concept for Applebucking was her knocking her head into the trees. they had to change it for the same reasons.

I’m kinda confused why bucking wasn’t their first thought. Like, horses kick things really hard. If AJ headbutted trees, we’d be pointing that out.

It was also going to be a thing in Applebuck Season that she was literally brain-damaged from it (instead of just being overly tired). I can’t even begin to imagine why anyone thought “a horse is brain-damaged from headbutting apples from trees” was a better idea or made more sense than “a horse is overly tired from bucking apples from trees” at any point in development XD

Yeah. It’s one of those “funny” jokes that’d probably actually be funny in a more cynical and mean show, but having a seemingly “mean for the sake of mean” joke an optimistic show like MLP just feels out of place and honestly would have just made me feel bad for Applejack. Not all of Hasbro’s meddling is evil; I remember reading how originally the Diamond Dogs were supposed to be these black gangster stereotype minstrel shows like Skids and Mudflap from Transformers which TOTALLY would have gone over well on its own, not to mention with the added plot of them kidnapping a decidedly less black woman (waves sarcasm at you). The moral guardians would have frigging EXPLODED XD

Oh if that had been the Dogs I would’ve exploded on this forum, especially after the less than ideal Zecora. I honestly think the net result of Hasbro’s executive meddling is neutral or slightly positive- what did we actually lose of value as a result?
