Unpopular opinion time

Flip the script, then. If Starlight kept consistently getting the shaft in favor of other characters, and then after quite a while a different character got it instead, would it be hypocritical to be relieved it wasn’t her this time? I don’t think that would be hypocritical either and I hate Starlight XD

We didn’t get to see it happen. In between scenes Cozy just goes “Oh, Starlight’s gone now and she left me in charge.”
 
In TWABA they did more with it. Starlight goes away, has a bad time, comes back, and suddenly all of the mane 6 are acting strange and she doesn’t know what’s going on. Then she has a nightmare about the cast trying to attack her. Then she’s warned of the situation by Luna and there’s that big reveal that the cast have been replaced by changelings. She goes to Trixie and learns that everyone she could go to has been taken, and she and her friends are all alone. Then Discord shows up and loses his mind when he learns Fluttershy has been taken.
 
They try to work their dissaperance into the atmosphere of the episode. People who know the situation are more scared or outraged that they’re gone

That depends if you like her or the other character that got shafted. But either way, not really.
 
Regardless, since I loved both TWABA and School Raze, I didn’t mind that both the majority of the mane characters and Starlight got capture offscreen. I have my views and you have yours, sounds good?

The episode treated the cast being taken away with more gravitas. It’s a bigger deal that they are gone. That’s why I preferred how it was done in TWABA, even though I have no problem with school raze.

Now if we’re really gonna talk about unpopular opinions about School Raze, the faces that Cozy Glow pulled while monologuing to Starlight looked forced.

Not a chance, dude! Actually watching the Mane Six and the princesses get taken down one-by-one like some kind of pony / changeling g-rated horror movie would have blown anything TWABA showed us clear out of the water! That would have been the highlight of the whole series thus far I think! That should have been the entire first episode, like they could have done it like The Thing where they don’t know who’s been replaced or not, or like a slasher movie where they just drop like flies one after the other, like OH MAN THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN COOL AS HELL :D

Tell you what then, I’ll put my money where my mouth is: If the script does get flipped as such and you catch me saying or agreeing it’s hypocritical to be happy she’s not getting the shaft for once, I’ll eat crow and draw you a free commission :P

But that wouldn’t have been the story they wanted to tell. They wanted to tell a Starlight story because she was the plot of that season. Like how the day was saved by the student 6 in School Raze because they were this season’s plot.
 
In fact, I’d argue that giving the cast so much time in School Raze and the tartarus subplot was a bad thing, because it ate into screen time the students, Cozy and Neighsay should’ve got.

I didn’t have a problem with the mane 6 getting captured in TWABA or Starlight in School Raze.

Starlight was taken out cause she would have undermined Cozy Glow and I don’t mean in the plot, more that she would undermine what they wanted to do with Cozy as a character, given she feels very much like a response/redo of Starlight

Neighsay and Cozy were great foils to each other. He was having absolutely none of her cutsey shtick no matter how hard she tried to keep it up.

When I first saw that ep, I was confused all throughout part 1 as to why Neighsay and Cozy were working together until Part 2 came and was a classic case of backstabbing. I mean, I was with Neighsay and say that it’d be irresponsible letting a young child run the school.

We don’t need to pretend. There absolutely are parallels. In TWABA, the Mane 6 & Princesses are captured and put away offscreen, ostensibly to give Starlight & co. the spotlight, and as has been complained, there is no explicit explanation given for how it happened. Starlight gets this treatment for Student 6 spotlight time in School Raze to audience satisfaction, particularly for that of Starlight’s anti-fans. No complaints of non-explicit explanation in that scenario, which says that the aforementioned complaints were bs when dealt to TWABA. Therein the hypocrisy.

Eh, reading your explanation, it’s definitely not for audience satisfaction nor for her anti fans. It’s for a change of pace and in order to make the plot work so she won’t interfere with Cozy because she sure as hell wasn’t gonna go with the Mane 6 to Tartarus.
