It’s limited because there’s no potential for the kind of adventures and stories we get in FiM.
 
It’s mostly just a standard high school show with the occasional magical twist.

Agreed the plot of many episodes and the movie would never work in EQG.

Personally, I’ve been wanting EQG to be more of a magical girl series with MOTWs since the sub-franchise began, so I’ve got no problems with this new series. I’m just wondering why it took so long.

They are no longer than the shorts they’ve been getting so its going to be hard to be a Monster of the Week kind of thing.

Didn’t they say the shorts would be of “varying length” though? But yeah, I suppose you have a point. Even 11-minute shorts probably wouldn’t be long enough for that sort of thing.

Aren’t they supposed to be around 11 minutes? That’s the length of a lot of shows’ episodes.

I doubt they will be every long I mean 45 episode is a lot to do while still working on season 8 and the movie was being worked on by DHX I would be surprised if they are longer than 5 minutes.

I don’t know if this counts as an unpopular opinion but this is something that really annoys me

Ugggh, I know. Not to mention pointing to all the “dark” and “serious” stuff in FiM that somehow “proves” that it’s “not just for little girls anymore”.

Quite possibly the single most relevant time ever for me to say this:
 
I am much more hyped for the EqG series than I am for season 8. Put simply, it has less material under its belt by comparison and thus has a lot more untapped potential.

Well yeah, the movie has opened the door to a lot of new possibilities.  
But I really do think the world of EqG has grown into its own to the point where I legitimately want to know more about it, or at least how the Mane 6’s characters would thrive in such a society. And need I go on about how I feel about Sunset Shimmer’s background?

I never liked PONY.MOV or any of its spin-offs. It was stupid.
 
The fact that Hotdiggetydemon is kind of a huge racist didn’t really help either.
