I’d also presume that’s why Chrysalis is a popular villain: her ego is appealing.
 
Of course, there’s more than one or two reasons…

Trixie is funny because she’s her own worst enemy. Her ego gets her into trouble all the time.

I think you can say the same for Chrysalis too, except less humor involved.
 
I think perhaps you can say Chrysalis takes negative traits from both Starlight and Trixie, amplifying them.
 
It is rather fitting she shares a voice actress with Trixie, come to think of it, as Latecomer brought up.

And from what I’ve read, Kathleen Barr is very shy/modest outside of the recording studio: she doesn’t really go to conventions or interact with fans much.

She’s pretty good at playing roles that run contrary to her general demeanor then, I must say.

Self confidence is sexy. She has a great design and great VA. Trixie is also sympathetic due to getting the short end of the stick in her introductory episode when all she did was put on a free magic show and embarrass some hecklers.
 
I still hate how Starlight tried to sell Trixie’s wagon.

Don’t forget she almost got Trixie beat to death by a crowd hopped up on magic.
 
And It took a pep talk from Twilight to get her to Intervene in Trixies clearly suicidal attempt at the manticore mouth dive.
 
And her leadership tactics involve allowing Trixie to sacrifice herself to distract a horde of angry Buggos.
 
Starlight’s lucky Trixie still Likes her, let alone feels safe being within 100 feet of her.

And that’s why Starlight is awesome.

Starlight told her not to touch her saddlebags, she didn’t listen, so the bottle broke, causing the anger cloud to spread.
 
Also, Trixie suggested the use of a memory-wiping spell in that episode, which Starlight shut down.
 
Trixie admitted to using her to get back at Twilight, so… her fault.
 
In To Where and Back Again, that was entirely Trixie’s idea. Starlight tried to talk her out of it, Trixie wouldn’t listen.
 
So… none of those examples are valid. They were either mostly or all Trixie’s fault.

I actually talked to someone after this ep’s leak who had their opinion cemented by it that Trixie was a toxic friend that Starlight would be better rid of.
 
Really, it seems like their relationship is built on a mix of being able to stand each other and being able to forgive each other.

Starlight is, ironically enough, less reckless and more morally upstanding than Trixie is as of S9.
 
Trixie is on the narcissistic side, Starlight… isn’t.
 
And before someone tells me Trixie isn’t narcissistic, in what world did Twilight ruin her life (her “revenge” scheme was also caused by envy, y’know, she outright said it), in what world would someone even conceive of the possibility Starlight would create a position solely for them? Someone as egocentric as Trixie.
 
Still, she isn’t in the same dimension as Chrysalis’ ego.

Starlight has been under the rehabilitative care of the Princess of Friendship, as well as making (or reconnecting with) multiple friends of her own. Trixie… pretty much just has Starlight.
