Unpopular opinion time

Dash is still a fan favorite, although I think you mischaracterize what happened to most characters in terms of popularity. Art shifted to focus more evenly on all characters, especially the Mane 6, as well as on new characters- Starlight has fairly quickly reached over 35,000 images, which is impressive given that Trixie- a fan favorite for far longer- has only 50,000.
 
Finally, the fandom settled on a mascot- Derpy. She is the only recurring secondary character who exists solely because of and for the fans, a result of us loving the shit out of her. As such, she’s the current shorthand for fans, as opposed to previous characters (Dash, Vinyl Scratch)

Perhaps - but I don’t see how that would have been better. Trixie has a better dynamic with Starlight than either of them really have with the Mane 6.

And then came Starlight - who rounded off the circle by bringing back Trixie. Sunset eventusally befriended hers as well. So alls well that ends well in the land of Twilight foils - well, except Tempest, but that’s what you get having such an epensive voice.

Micro Chips has more screentime than Flash Sentry.

Starlight debate (of course), Sunset’s character arc, a user had a meltdown, body type of Kirins, Coco Pommel, Fluttershy criticism, spoiler brackets (not gonna bother checking them out), IDW talk, shy/moe characters, UserAccount being UserAccount, Rainbow Dash talk…

Fine but Trixie hasn’t interacted with all the Mane 6 so we don’t know what their chemistry would of been if she actually interacted with them.

We see quite a bit in Boast Busters and Magic Duel. Furthermore, Trixie seems very bad at getting along with ponies in general - granted, you could say the same about early Twi, but forcing her into the team would require her growing out of that while her being part of Starlight’s bunch of misfits doesn’t as much.

Gonna prop up the comics again here. For all the deserved shit they get, one of the things they got right was branching Trixie with other characters beyond Twilight/Starlight, she’s had great moments with several of the mane 6 and CMC with stories like Friends Forever #6 and Manehattan Mysteries, and even several supporting characters, I hear Nightmare Knights is really good
