Yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the case.
||I mean it is true that some carnivores can occasionally eat plants, sometimes even one their own like how some
cats eat grass (and
other plants) or how some dogs enjoy eating fruit and veggies once in a while (both my late dog and my current dog love bananas).
And it’s also true that some herbivores occasionally eat meat, like how some horses and
deer occasionally eat birds on their own.
But giving a carnivore a pure vegan diet is just as unhealthy and abusive as giving a herbivore a meat-only diet. It’s a bad idea all around really.
For example, it’s okay for me to give little bits of banana or peanut butter to one of my dogs as a sometimes treat. But to only give him fruit is horrible. His actual meals are meat and I would never change that. He’s a very happy and healthy dog.

I don’t think it’s odd or all too surprising but I do think it’s sad.
Some parents who are introverted, sometimes don’t permit their children to go out much because they simply don’t understand what it’s like to be extroverted. Likewise, some parents who constantly worry about their kids getting hurt, do sometimes get overprotective and prevent their kids from doing things because they don’t want their kids to get hurt.
In both cases, it’s with people who don’t really understand what they’re doing. And in the latter, the parent has their heart in the right place but is unfortunately ultimately doing the wrong thing by holding their child back. And sometimes, in either case, the parent may be mentally ill (based on my own experience with my overprotective mother at least). Ultimately in cases like this, the parent needs to get help (and sometimes the child too).
So I could possibly see the relationship being similar to that.
