I think she is a sociopath, people just misinterpret and overstate what a sociopath is.
Lightning Dust has certainly displayed far more characteristics of being one than the other popular candidate for that label (Starlight) ever has. I mean, she emotionally manipulated a nervous, vulnerable kid into performing an unsafe and thoroughly untested stunt solely to make her show look good. That’s not the sign of a healthy mentality.

Yep, Starlight, while she used to fail at life morally, it’s been proven on multiple occasions to actually have been very much possible to make her feel remorse, even at her worst. Lightning Dust on the other hand? Yeah… no. Her saving grace is that she doesn’t seem to actively enjoy hurting others, but that hardly stops her from being a terrible friend, hence why she isn’t friends with Rainbow Dash, or any of Rainbow’s friends.

As for characters like Discord and Trixie, they do have narcissistic traits; Trixie’s ego was hurt by Twilight saving everyone’s lives from an Ursa Minor, and she sought revenge on her. That’s why she was actually a villain in her 2nd appearance, but not her 1st. As for Discord, he’s… Discord. You can’t say his ego is unjustified in some ways though, since he’s effortlessly one of the best mages to have ever lived, and he is intelligent.

I think that Trixie had the potential to become more evil than Starlight, honestly.

Hah, nice.

Starlight dragged all ponies down in the name of equality while being subtly and secretly above them. Trixie pushed anypony who challenged her down so that she could lord her superiority over everypony. So similar but different…

If someone gets basically Team Rocket’d (a twinkle in the sky), they have essentially no chance of being dead, in a show like this.

It happened with Chrysalis and her hive, and it happened with Lightning Dust.

@Latecomer

Difference is, Starlight deluded herself into thinking she was morally justified (which thankfully she came to realize that no, she wasn’t), Trixie didn’t really care, and the latter never was a leader, was she?

That’s also something those two ended up having in common with Chrysalis, as the S6 finale pretty much spelled out (in the case of Starlight), only the latter actually directly gained power from doing it (I’m not really sure on the talking point of “Chrysalis was willfully starving her subjects” I’ve seen people make though, but in any case, her pride proved to be more important than her hive).

Yeah - a lot of parallels there, that make Season 6 feel like it could have had a stronger arc for them than it did. Both Starilight and Trixie projected a false image in their debuts, too - a humble one and an invincible one. So you could have more parallels with changelings.

Trixie, Discord and Starlight all have the problem that they care a little bit too much about other people. Trixie and Discord demand attention and get extremely indignant if they don’t get it, and both go out of their way to be as annoying as possible just so they can dominate a room. Starlight on the other hand really, really wants friends, and if she has to force you to be friends with her with evil magic and self indulgent political movements, so be it.

It’s actually kind of amazing to me, how the writers have pretty much redeemed Snips and Snails from being what they were early on, where they were just those two morons who fucked everything up with Trixie.

Snips seems like he most certainly has learned from believing Trixie’s boasts, and appears like he’d never pull something as utterly boneheaded as he did in S1, judging from how he expressed skepticism of Scootaloo’s bragging about her parents in “The Last Crusade” (in contrast to how it went with Trixie), and him being shown in S9 to have a greedy side (he’s probably a lot better in that regard than Flim and Flam though) is something I can get behind. He had a good showing in “2,4,6 Greaaat,” IMO.

Snails, while not that smart, he’s actually pretty damn good at telekinesis, to the point of pulling the rare ability of self-levitation off (and not just levitating himself by using a bucket as a proxy for doing so, as he did in Buckball Season), and he’s good at performing under pressure.

He offensively at the moment has no real limitations, other than plot devices. It’s not a good sign to me but it doesn’t really matter much in most contexts within the show.

You do realize that their are probably other Pegasus that are out there that could be faster than dash that we just haven’t seen and baby Pegasus that have been born and will be born in the future that could beat her in speed, rainbow dash will be a legend for sure among Pegasus and other ponies but she’s not unbeatable also lighting dust can rival her in speed and could possibly outspeed her.
