Unpopular opinion time

Come to think of it, firing a magic beam from your horn (if you’re a unicorn) is probably a pretty basic spell to perform, it’s just that unless you’re pretty good at it/train at it/are talented, that sort of thing, it doesn’t do a lot of damage.

What I’m talking about is a bit more drastic than different heights and amounts of fat.

Unless you’re talking about G1, none of the creatures you’re talking about have ever actually been canonically referred to as Yeti in the first place. The difference between Storm King and Storm Guard is frankly less than that between John Brower Minnoch and Sultan Kosen.

And where does this one slide in?:  

It has the same basic form, just quadrupedal. It was also only ever implied to be a Yeti, and in a different episode at that.

That seriously reflected badly on Luna’s character I think. So her plan relied on that guy being a terrible guard, which he was and which made her plan work, and then he got fired for it. No other guard got fired or even punished for being terrible guards that day, even though they were every bit as bad as him and even did the exact same thing he did: abandoning their posts to gawk at an obviously suspicious ruse while people slipped past. Yeah Zephyr’s a shithead and I don’t feel bad he got some comeuppance for it, but it doesn’t change the fact Luna acted like a manipulative bastard who set a person up to fail so she could take advantage of it, then abandoned them to take the heat for it when she had no more use for them. Remind me which one, out of Luna and Nightmare Moon, is the evil villain again? :P
