Unpopular opinion time

I don’t remember much from that movie, but I do know that he’s a better character than Capper cause damn was he boring and uninteresting. Capper was just the typical snarky, conniving sly cat that we’ve seen in previous media and I did not care for him because of it.

The movie didn’t felt at all like a pony movie. And that’s not counting the overabundance of characters, which shafted some character’s screen time at the point they did’t even got the chance to do anything.

How cool would it have been too if they were all more bestial. Like, Capper ran around on all fours, the Storm King was like a gorilla with the long forearms who walked on his knuckles, and the bird pirates were literal birds that flew around with swords in their talons? :D

I’m the same with the hippogriff seaponies as I am with the new changelings. As long as there are still real, genuine seaponies out there I’m happy :D

Don’t let it excuse the behavior is the big thing for me. Someone who kidnaps, tortures, and tries to change time just to get “friends” is an objectively bad person at heart, so don’t write that stuff off as “Oh the poor thing lost her friend once that’s why they do it”. That’s like on par with someone who kidnaps a woman and locks her in his basement to brainwash her into being his boyfriend D:

Storm King did get more feral towards the end when he was trying to get his staff from Twilight.

The storm king was OK. He’s a yeti so I could accept him as a bipedal.
 
The birds sounds cool. The cats only needed a more animalistic appereance, not too much, just enough that doesn’t make them look like an anthro.

Diamond dogs are semi-bipedal at best, and minotaurs get a pass for mythology, not to mention being impossibly rare.

That’s why I like him, he was a good antagonist and my opinion, what Discord should be like.

If it were all just about Starlight being power-hungry, we might’ve ended up in a world where she ended up being recruited by Grogar, but the present state of things are fine.
 
Chrysalis does come across as a relatively competent mage, right?

I’m surprised nobody’s brought up Discord being anthro/semi-anthro yet, since he walks on two legs usually, but seems like he’s more meant for four.

Oh dude, I ain’t excusing that at all, I’m just telling it like it is. I’m not a blind fanboy who thinks that she can do no wrong, because she’s done SOOOOO much wrong. I think her backstory and her reasons to be bad were shit too, I thought her redemption was sloppy (then again, this show isn’t the best when it comes to that) and she’s had shitty episodes under her belt (All Bottled Up, Every Little Thing She Does). All in all, I feel like she did a good job of trying to move past all that to become better and the pony that she is. Sure it doesn’t excuse or justify her terrible actions, but really isn’t that the case for the other characters as well?

I won’t argue with that. The mane six is one thing, but Starlight manipulated her village for years, fired a laser blast in their direction (with unknown intent), and they forgave her instantly. Yeah, she definitely should have had to work for it.

Regarding “how long” her village was going on, it couldn’t have been started before Maud Pie (the episode), because according to that episode, she was going to get her “Rocktorate,” and according to Rock Solid Friendship, she was travelling across Equestria in the process of doing a dissertation to get said Rocktorate.
 
Therefore, her village seems like it couldn’t have been a thing until sometime after Maud Pie (in S4), and the Mane Six (via the Cutie Map pointing them there) probably shut that cult of hers down relatively swiftly, after they gave up their marks, probably not “years.”
 
Not saying she was a wonderful pony, she wasn’t, just giving a bit of timeline context.

Still, it was long enough for her to build up a substantial follower base, including foals.

I still prefer to imagine Evil!Starlight as a Che Guevara or Leon Trotsky like revolutionary who really believed in her system rather than an egotistic sadboi. Things like that are why Discord and Tirek were great villains, and why even though she’s my favorite, it’s a far from perfect portrayal.
 
About anthros and the movie: just another part of an aggressively mediocre film that I’ll probably never watch again, except for maybe Tempest’s song. It didn’t bother me too much, but the idea of all these weird species outside Equestria did. I’d rather they had gone to Saddle Arabia or the like instead, so we could have ponies in a clearly mostly equine world.
 
Which reminds me: according to all the maps we’ve seen, Saddle Arabia doesn’t exist. Fuck that.

I dunno, I kinda vastly prefer the idea that ponies are not the dominant or most important species on the planet, just one of dozens of other sapient species that think they’re more special.
