it would help if they stopped giving the mane six practical reasons to not trust her (she’s dangerous, unstable, likes to brainwash) and only superficial reasons to trust her (she’s “trying”, she’s “a good person at heart”).

I don’t know about that. It certainly feels (staff tweets aside) like Starlight didn’t get much in the way of parental support or concern. And in a way, isn’t that as bad? I mean as painful as Applejack’s loss is, she will always know her parents cared for her, loved her, wanted the best for her, and so on. Starlight’s… don’t seem to feel any of that. And if that’s true, Starlight doesn’t even get the benefit of the memories, or the closure, or the motivation to be the kind of pony they’d be proud of. It reminds me of that one saying… that the opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference. And I think if Applejack knew that was the case, she’d actually be more accepting of Starlight than most. Because Applejack’s entire thing is family, and she more than anyone would likely understand what feeling irrelevant could drive someone to do.

I don’t care if the movie was considered a flop, I enjoyed it.
 
Plenty of other movies have been considered flops both critically and financially, and yet they still have fans.

Applejack has always been the easiest to offend though. She’s very committed to her sense of right and wrong. And I’m not sure if she understands how good she had it, being brought up in a loving family unit who instilled in her the kind of moral framework that she’s so proud of. I wonder if she just considers that nothing special, and that framework ‘innate’.
 
She is fairly forgiving though.

I remember the term being thrown around in 2010.
 
“The One Where Pinkie Pie Knows” sucked partially because Pinkie Pie didn’t even keep the secret. She would’ve told them all anyway if Cadance and Shining Armor hadn’t walked in when they did.
