my favorite albums of his are Ambient 1: Music for Airports, Small Craft on a Milk Sea (a collaboration with Jon Hopkins and Leo Abrahams), and Lux. such beautiful music.
I agree. brony musicians should also look to other media other than the show for inspiration. and on Pink Floyd, I wish their albums were available on DVD-A* (with Quadraphonic and Five-Point-One Surround Mixes included) instead of just DVD-V (which lacks the album in hi-res codecs); I can’t access the audio on the DVD via foobar2000 unless it’s in the Meridian Lossless Packing (MLP) codec. also, not enough New Stereo Remixes or Five-Point-One Surround Mixes of their back catalogue (only a few singles, Obscured by Clouds, Live at Pompeii, and Meddle** were remixed; they’re available on The Early Years 1965-1972).
*I cannot believe the Floyd and their producers and managers haven’t thought of – and still won’t think of – releasing DVD-As of their material; they only release hi-res stuff on Blu-ray, which is a bummer because that would mean having to buy a (portable) Blu-ray disc drive for my computer, which I don’t have. just look at King Crimson’s 40th Anniversary Series and The Doors’ Perception box set – those bands have their material on DVD-A; they didn’t necessarily have to release it only on Blu-ray! it’s not that difficult or expensive putting out hi-res music on a supposedly dead format! *facepalm*
**the New Stereo and Five-Point-One Meddle (available only on the Continu/ation Blu-ray) isn’t accessible normally – it can only be done through Blu-ray ripping software. the reason for this I believe was that there was disagreement on the development of the remixes, but the discs were manufactured with the remixes already written on them for publishing, so the producers deleted the menu option at the last minute as they thought no one would be able to access the remixes.
