Why is Sunset popular? Because of her sympathy act which is often utilized by Starlight as well. Her conflict in Rainbow Rocks boiled down to “Oh poor me. I’m a pure little snowflake now. Why doesn’t anyone believe me?”

Luna was a different case, as she wasn’t always evil to begin with. she became evil through her own jealousy and anger she felt towards her people. the Elements simply dispelled all that darkness that was consuming her. Sunset, on the other hand, chose to be evil from the start; she enjoyed hurting others! her mind was rewired so she only has her past memories but not her personality or demeanor. so no, Luna was not brainwashed, but Sunset was! ;D

maybe… but there’s nothing in the movie that showed she was scared of being evil or that she regretted her sinful ways – in fact, she was still just as contemptible as a monster as she was before putting on Twilight’s crown; she didn’t freak out when she saw herself as a demon, she was happy. she was more than just petty… SHE WAS A MANEATER!

really, the true villains of the equestria girls series are the ponies themselves. they’re the ones who used the human world as a garbage can to dump their sirens and introduced magic to the world which has had a lasting and irreversible negative effect on them.

oh, so that’s what you meant. the thing is, the whole Element of Forgiveness fan theory came up shortly after EqG 1 came out; fans have been discussing this all over the Internet whenever Sunset was brought up! and the writers, upon hearing about it, happened to pick that up and adapted it into canon (starting with EqG 3) simply to please the fans – they’re just rolling along with what the Sunset fans come up with! there you go, is that the proof you wanted? :^)
 
no, the same thing did not happen with Sunset Shimmer. as I said, that heartless scoundrel chose to be evil early on, whereas Princess Moon Butt was being unwittingly consumed and blinded by her own negative emotions. :-/

Please, tell me more about how you have undeniable proof that the writers decided on this. Show me where one of the writers said that they took it from the fan theories.
