I honestly don’t remember. I think it was the memes and that I don’t normally watch light hearted/colorful stuff, so it was a breath of fresh air. The community came later.

No I was drawn in by the animation, I stayed for the characters. Writing was pretty good though

Actually, I remember seeing someone post Pinkie Pie and wondering who the hell that was. The rest is history. I never thought the writing was great, fun stories and characters sure.

The animation was great, and the writing not being shit also helped a good deal.

Yeah and the animation has definitely been something that has always gone up with each season, I don’t think anyone would deny that.

I came around for the fanfics and stayed for the characters. writing certainly helped but it wasn’t the main draw for me.

I was first drawn to watch the show by the then-impressive animation (seriously, it was pretty good for coming out five years ago compared to the other sh*t that was on at the time) and the fan creations of them (a particular PMV convinced me to watch it…a PMV I have since been unable to find :( ).
 
While watching it, I was drawn to the fun, lighthearted writing and the enjoyable and colorful (both literally and figuratively) characters. After watching it, the fandom finished sucking me in to be a permanent fan of the show.

Can you still remember details about the PMV?

Thunderlane needs more love in the fandom. You don’t really see people do all that much with him.

I didn’t think Parental Glideance was as good as some people say it is.

I really liked the episode, but I didn’t think it was the best episode of the season as some people have said. Heck, I wouldn’t even put it in my top 3 favorite episodes of the season.

Honestly, a lot of stallions could use more love in the fandom, along with Thunderlane (and Thunderclap, by extension).

I’m really not enjoying season 7 overall. Hopefully season 8 is much, much better.
